Sleeping in a hotel bed under the sky

A couple of years ago, my wife and I got a special present:

A night at the Null Stern Hotel (engl. Zero Star Hotel): nullsternhotel.ch (turn on the sound, when you visit this website). This “Hotel” is special because it has only one bed and this bed is outside in the middle of a meadow. There are bedside lamps and there is even a safe. And, you have our own buttler – the farmer who lives close by.

We spent an unforgettable night there in summer 2017. The weather was not that good, but hey, that made the experience even more special. Falling asleep was hard: Looking up the sky and catching sight of stars every now and then between the clouds kept us awake.

We woke up at about 6.30 in the morning - no alarm clock needed. Half an hour later it started to rain. So we packed our stuff, covered the bed with a blanket and had a wonderful breakfast with local products in the farm house.

Piece of Art

The Zero Star Hotel is a piece of art. It was invented by two brothers (I think). The buttler/farmer told us, only a couple hours after they had broadcasted the start of this Zero Star Hotel it was in the news world wide. He said: «Now I don’t have to go to travel to see the world. Now the world visits me.»

On sabbatical

If you go on the website I mentioned before nullsternhotel.ch it says (April 2019) that while the original concept of the Null Stern Hotel is on sabbatical, they have created a spin-off version under the name “Zero Real Estate”. For more information and to book one of the 3 hotel rooms without wall and roof, you can visit www.zerorealestate.ch

I’d love to do this and have often camped out under the stars via a mosquito net. Did you experience any bites from insects, spiders, etc. What about wild animals?

It was a rather cold summer night. Fortunately there were no mosquitos.

And switzerland is a peaceful country  There are no dangerous wild animals.

A drooling cow can wake you up though.
