Six Flags Discovery Kingdom | Animal Interactions part 2 ~ Paint with Dolphins

Dolphin Apollo at Six Flags Discovery Kingdom Amusement Park in Vallejo, California

This is the second and final installment of my Six Flags Discovery Kingdom Animal Interactions with my grandson. This time we did the Paint with Dolphins. We were both very excited about this one-of-a-kind behind-scenes paid experience. It was worth every penny. One paid entrance fee covered my minor grandson as well as myself for this animal interaction. Our guide greeted us at the designated area on time and then escorted us into the dolphin area. We were allowed to pick 3 paint colors and a white canvas. We were then escorted behind the fenced area onto the actual pool area where all the amusement park dolphins live separated into multiple pools. It was amazing to see them up close swimming around personally in this way. We were then assigned to a dolphin trainer who talked with my grandson step-by-step about what was going to happen while I stood close by capturing video and photos. Apollo and a second dolphin came over to say hello (see video below). Then a special paintbrush was placed inside Apollo’s mouth along with 3 paint colors to choose. Nine-year-old Apollo then began to do his thing and paint. In the end, Apollo went under the water and used his tale to wave goodbye to us. This was an unforgettable memory created with my grandson

To sum things up check out the video below:

Now it’s your turn. Would you try this animal interaction? Please share your thoughts below. Until next time…

I would LOVE to do something like this, @Scheria . I never even knew it was an option! Your grandson looks so stoked after that experience. How beautiful.

@JustJake yes, just last night he was excitedly recounting to me how he threw a small dead fish into Apollo’s mouth to feed him. It’s something new they are rolling out to engage more customers. Not sure if it’s at all amusement parks yet. I think you and your family will love it.

@Annaelisa Yes, the animal interactions are scheduled at a specific time in the day. He is still talking about it. We may go back to do the Merlin’s Fins and Friends activity next.
