It looks like the custom map is now restored and shows off all the beautiful rainbows all over the world! If you have a rainbow on your window/door, don’t forget to add them to the map!
Got a buzz on my phone minutes ago with a new video from Google so I decided to take a look at it and it’s the warmest video I’ve seen this week! It’s a simple story of how a parent decided to create a custom map of their neighbourhood showcasing where they could find rainbows! Finding rainbows?! Yup!!
Recently, more and more folks all around the world have been using the rainbow to show their solidarity and love for their friends, neighbours, families and especially front line workers, those amazing folks in the healthcare sector that have been battling night and day to the keep the virus at bay and looking after patients suffering from the coronavirus. It’s a simple gesture of putting up a drawing of a rainbow on their front door/window!
This one parent in Brooklyn, New York, decided to map all the places where you could view those rainbows and now it’s gone viral! Check out the video below (or hit the link here if the video is not showing properly):
Anyway, I really love the story, the message and I thought I’d share it here! If you want to go and add your own rainbow to the map, click to the blog post for the map and find out how! Does anyone have a rainbow in their window or on their door? Why not share them in the comments below too!
Note: As of this writing, the custom map is… er… a bit wonky! As it’s an open map to allow anyone to map their rainbows… it also means that anybody can go in and accidentally mess things up! And it looks like that’s what’s happening!
Such a happy note with the rainbows. Showing gratitude in the most simplest way. The more the colours the more the happiness. Rainbows are seen in MUMBAI, INDIA are pretty rare but ones are seen while in off season rains.
I would like to tag my few friends to share their view on this
this is indeed so sweet, what a nice story and nice (and fun in this period) way to use Maps and My Maps. We do have many of them here in Italy as well .
Btw shame that can be messed up, I don’t see the ones mentioned in the video… perhaps they have been already removed .
@AdrianLunsong at the beginning of the quarantine, we added rainbows to our windows. Each one of my 4 kids draw one. Here, we used the hashtag “ça va bien aller” meaning everything will be just fine.
@AdrianLunsong thank you so much for sharing this post my friend! What a simple thing but such a big impact it can have. I am going to draw a few along with my niece and stick it on our windows!
Thanks @Shreeya_99 The rainbow is indeed a pretty sight and as I like the rain, it’s actually quite an extra bonus!
@LuigiZ The markers was working fine initially and I could see loads all over the world… and then I wanted to add the direct link to the map and had to take a double take because it just changed! For a short while, I thought I got the link wrong and I tried again and again and even did more Google searches before realising that someone’s accidentally messed it up!
@Melissa_Langlois Thanks so much for this share! That’s super cool! Until I saw the video, I hadn’t realised that many countries had adopted the rainbow as a show of unity in our fight against the virus! I had, ignorantly, assumed that it was just a local thing in the UK! Over here, we mix the rainbow with the text “NHS” which is the UK’s National Health Service so it’s slightly different but still the same message
@vvbellur Thanks so much! Looking forward to seeing how the rainbow drawing goes! I live in an apartment and I don’t think anybody here has put something on… not sure if it’s because we’re not at ground level and nobody can actually see the rainbows!
@Stphn Yeah… I totally agree! I like the idea of putting on a sign to show our resolve to see this through and that we’re (quite literally) all in this together! And what an apt choice to pick the rainbow!
Hello @Stphn this is a great message of hope in this times of distress. Let’s keep hopeful and keep washing our hand as necessary and keep safe and stay home.
@AdrianLunsong whatay great gesture of love! Each one of us is fighting and hope to get through it together, and a salute to all the doctors and paramedics who are serving us in this hour of need. May God protect them.
Such a touching way to keep spirits bright and show solidarity - it has been so interesting seeing the use cases shared by the Maps team on social media for MyMaps. @TraciC was your rainbow one of the ones featured?
