As a Local Guide and non-smoker, I’ve often faced discomfort when visiting restaurants or cafés that unexpectedly allow smoking. Some establishments let customers smoke in shared spaces, which affects other diners and especially families with children.
I would love to see Google Maps add an option or tag that helps users know whether smoking is allowed or not at a particular location — similar to how we can currently see information about accessibility or outdoor seating.
This small addition could:
Help non-smokers make more informed choices.
Encourage more smoke-free environments.
Support public health awareness.
What do you think, fellow Local Guides? Have you had similar experiences? And do you think this feature would be useful in your country or region?

It seems, in most parts of Western Europa, smoking in Restaurants is now forbidden. However, now non-smokers have the disadvantage of not enjoying outdoor seating anymore, because of being surrounded by smokers. If I remember correctly, some countries are considering (or even decided?) to make smoking illegal in these areas too.
In any case, I’d appreciate a tag at the restaurant listing indicating the smoke-free areas.
No I haven’t had similar experience. I’m actually a bit surprised at this post, as I didn’t think smoking in public places was still allowed anywhere. I don’t think it’s an issue in my country.
As a fellow non-smoker, I’ve also faced such discomfort, especially in indoor or semi-enclosed dining areas where smoke travels easily. Adding a smoking policy tag on Google Maps would definitely help users make better choices and promote healthier public spaces. It’s a small feature, but it could have a big impact on families, children, and even people with respiratory issues.
Have you come across any restaurant or café that already clearly promotes itself as 100% smoke-free on Maps or their signage? because I haven’t till date.
