Shortcuts to train/bus schedules : A handy tip

I just noticed a new feature (maybe it is not new).

When looking at a live train schedule shown under a train station on Google Maps a noticed this new button called Create shortcut. It is the last one and you need to swipe left to see it.

After tapping it you will get this:

After tapping Add to home screen this new icon (shortcut) is added on your phone’s last home screen:

Notice the tiny Maps logo.

This is pretty handy when you quickly want to check if you need to run or can walk slowly to catch the next train.

With the shortcut we don’t need to first open Maps and then zoom and pinch to find the station to check upcoming departures.

Is this feature news for you? And are you using it?

It also works for bus stops with live data for departures. I just checked.

Hi @MortenCopenhagen, thanks for sharing this tip! :raising_hands:

I didn’t know about the Create shortcut button for train and bus schedules.
That looks super useful for saving time and checking departures quickly. :train::bus:

I’ll definitely try this feature next time I use Google Maps for public transport! :globe_showing_europe_africa::sparkles:

@MortenCopenhagen Ah… that’s interesting.

During my travels this summer, I was creating trips on desktop Google Maps (e.g. from A to B) and was using the Share button to export the link for that specific trip to add into my… drumroll… spreadsheet!

Annoyingly, the interface and features between desktop and mobile Maps is still not the same. For instance…

On desktop only:

  1. I can share specific trips (on a set day and time between 2 locations for transit or 2 or more locations for driving) as a link or send to mobile

On mobile only:

  1. I can save the trip to a list called Saved Trips. This list can be found in the You tab. However, there’s a bug at the moment where I cannot delete any saved trips.. And this Saved Trips don’t appear on desktop

I believe we might be too powerful power users :winking_face_with_tongue:

We also need to document how review, photo, place links work/does not work across the three platforms.
