Hello Local Guides
Today I am thrilled to shine the “She Leads” spotlight on @Silvi , a warm-hearted and insightful Local Guide from Buenos Aires, Argentina. A radiologist by profession, Silvina brings the same care and attentiveness from her medical work into her contributions on Google Maps and Local Guides Connect.
Outside of work, she’s an animal lover (ask her about her two cats, Nathan and Trixie ), a passionate swimmer who trains four times a week, and a world explorer at heart. Through her thoughtful posts, helpful reviews, and genuine engagement, Silvina has become a familiar and encouraging voice within the Local Guides community.
When and how did you become a Local Guide?
I really don’t know the exact moment, but I became more consciously involved when I received the email to apply for Connect Live 2019 (CL19). Before that, I used Google Maps mostly for planning trips and sometimes left reviews, but that invitation changed the way I saw my contributions.
What inspires you to contribute to Local Guides Connect?
I really enjoy writing about travels, it’s a way of sharing the world with others. I also created a post to help rookies understand how to write on Connect, which was my way of giving back. I love the supportive nature of this community and being part of it.
What is your favourite type of contribution, and why?
On Connect, my favourite contributions are travel-related posts. I also love welcoming newcomers and helping them understand how to navigate the forum.
On Maps, I enjoy adding places, and lately I’ve been participating in the TRAC campaign. The opportunity to add new roads in various areas is incredibly useful and meaningful.
How do you define leadership, and what does it mean to you?
That’s a tough one. I think someone who truly feels like a leader probably isn’t one. To me, leadership should be natural, it’s something that comes through in how you act, not what you call yourself.
In what ways do you lead or make an impact outside of Local Guides Connect?
I don’t really see myself as a leader, but maybe I do in small ways. For example, during my swimming training, I usually start the team exercises (until someone overtakes me!! haha!). But really, I just try to support others quietly, without needing a spotlight.
What keeps you motivated to lead and contribute?
It’s not always easy to stay consistent. Life gets busy and stressful. There are times I disappear, but something always pulls me back. Why? Because I miss being part of this amazing Connect family. My motivation has always been simple: to be helpful.
Who inspires you the most, and why?
Many people in this community, specially the ones who opened the amount of their knowledge to everyone who needed help. In my case I always be thankful to @Jesi @Cecilita @ErmesT and many more that showed me the right way to make things in Connect in my beginnings.
How do you think we can inspire more women to be a part of our community?*
I think this series could be an interesting way to do it. Sharing our experiences with others women could be them to want to be a part of the community too.
Have you faced any challenges? How did you overcome them?
Who don’t? Yes, of course. I think the only way to get out of hard times is being positive, good thoughts attract good results. Also be surrounded by good people helps a lot.
How do you think we can inspire more women to be a part of our community?
I think this She Leads series is a wonderful way to do that. When we share our experiences, we can inspire other women to join in and discover what this community has to offer.
Have you faced any challenges? How did you overcome them?
Of course who hasn’t? I think the key is to stay positive. Good thoughts attract good outcomes. Surrounding yourself with good people also helps a lot.
What barriers do you face when contributing as a woman, and how do you overcome them?
I haven’t personally faced any barriers in this community or at least not that I noticed. I’ve always felt free to contribute and be myself here.
What message would you like to share with women around the world?
First, be happy. Then, be helpful. I truly believe that joy is a great foundation, and from there, we can do so much for others.
Silvina shows us that leadership can be gentle, sincere, and rooted in kindness. Through her heartfelt contributions, helpful spirit, and quiet strength, she brings people together and makes the Local Guides community brighter. Thank you, Silvina, for reminding us that being helpful is, in itself, a beautiful way to lead.
