Hello Local Guides,
I’m excited to turn the “She Leads” spotlight onto @Annaelisa, a dedicated Local Guide from the picturesque town of Eckernförde, Germany. After a fulfilling professional life, Annaelisa is now enjoying retirement—though her passion for discovery and community engagement is anything but quiet.
A Local Guide since 2019 and currently at Level 10, she brings her love for nature, culture, and local life into every contribution she makes. Whether she’s mapping out hidden gems in her coastal town, reviewing local restaurants, or capturing the ever-changing beauty of the Baltic Sea’s steep cliffs, Annaelisa’s goal is to inform, inspire, and support travellers and locals alike.
Beyond Maps, she’s an active voice in Local Guides Connect, where she values meaningful exchanges with fellow Guides and enjoys learning through community conversations. With a strong belief in sustainability, independence, and lifelong curiosity, Annaelisa leads by example—celebrating her surroundings and empowering others to appreciate and protect them too.
When and how did you become a Local Guide?
I’ve been a Local Guide since 2019. I started contributing simply because it brought me joy—and that’s still what motivates me today.
What inspires you to contribute to Local Guides Connect?
I’m inspired by the helpful problem-solving, useful information, and—above all—the exchange of experiences with other Local Guides from around the world. It’s a place full of learning and connection.
What is your favourite type of contribution, and why?
I particularly enjoy sharing information about cities, nature, culture, science, and landmarks. These topics not only interest me but also broaden my knowledge and, hopefully, that of others.
How do you define leadership, and what does it mean to you?
Leadership means being a positive role model, taking responsibility, and supporting the talents and development of others. It’s about leading with purpose and encouraging growth.
In what ways do you lead or make an impact outside of Local Guides Connect?
I’m passionate about preserving our natural environment and supporting our town’s diverse local businesses. Both are essential for a vibrant and sustainable community.
What keeps you motivated to lead and contribute?
As I mentioned earlier, it’s the simple joy of sharing, helping others, and staying connected to a meaningful community.
Who inspires you the most, and why?
Nature itself inspires me the most—watching the changing seasons and seeing how the coastal cliffs are constantly shaped by wind, weather, and the sea. It reminds me that change is natural and beautiful.
How do you think we can inspire more women to be a part of our community?
We should reach out to women who already contribute on Google Maps and introduce them to the engaging and supportive world of Local Guides Connect. Highlighting its many opportunities can spark their interest and involvement.
Have you faced any challenges? How did you overcome them?
Everyday life brings its own set of challenges. I try to take things as they come and make the best of each situation with resilience and positivity.
What barriers do you face when contributing as a woman, and how do you overcome them?
Personally, I haven’t faced any barriers in this community. I feel free to contribute and be myself.
What message would you like to share with women around the world?
Value and love yourself, and above all, strive for independence. I know that’s not always easy—women often carry the greater share of family responsibilities. However, I’ve also seen inspiring examples of men who take on those responsibilities so their partners can fully commit to their professional paths. Support, balance, and mutual respect are key.
Annaelisa reminds us that leadership comes in many forms—it can be quiet, grounded, and rooted in care for community and nature. Through her thoughtful contributions, genuine curiosity, and love for her hometown, she inspires others to explore, connect, and protect the world around them. Thank you, Annaelisa, for showing us that no matter where we are in life, we can always lead with purpose and passion.
