I was visiting the heritage of Ahmedabad Gujarat and Ahmad Shah’s Mosque which is a Shahi Jam e Masjid was our priority. I and my wife could observe the Maghreb Prayer in the month of February 2019. We were amazed by its antiquity and Islamic Architecture.

This very beautiful mosque was built by Ahmed Shah. Who was the first Sultan of Gujarat. This grand mosque is located near the Lal Darwaza in the range of Bhadra Fort. The design of this mosque is similar to that of the royal mosque of Cambay. This mosque is a living example of the early Islamic architecture. There are five arched gateways to enter the main prayer hall of this mosque. Its pegged ceiling rests on stone pillars, beams and arches. A special enclosure with stone screens in the northern direction is made for praying the veiled royal women. In the middle of the western wall are the main arches and member. And all other arches are built of white marble and black stone. A lattice galleries hanging on the first floor and a special stone place in the main prayer hall were reserved for the Sultan. The roof of this mosque is adorned with 10 large domes and several smaller domes. Outside there is a water Hauz to perform wudhu means ablution in a large courtyard. This mosque has more historical and archaeological significance. Above the main arch in the prayer hall is an inscription in Arabic language. Which shows that it’s construction was completed in 817 AH 7th December 1414 AD. This royal mosque was built for the prayers of all the royal family members, nobles and the royal people.

It’s a very popular attraction among history buffs wanderers soulseekers art and architecture lovers and a place of worship.

Wow! The construction was completed in 1414 AD and it still looks so beautiful. In the post you mentioned that your wife also offered Maghrib prayer in this ancient mosque, do they have a separate section for ladies for offering prayers?
