Shadow routes in summer

Feature Request: Shaded / Cool Pedestrian Routes for Hot Climates

The Problem:
Walking in hot countries during summer is challenging and dangerous due to extreme heat, especially now with the climate change. Currently, Google Maps shows the shortest route, which often forces people to walk under direct sunlight.

The Solution:
Introduce a “Shaded Route” option for pedestrians. Google Maps can analyze terrain data, building heights (3D models already available in Maps), and sun positions throughout the day to calculate which sidewalks have the most shade.

Why it matters:
This feature will protect users from heatstrokes, make cities more walkable in summer, and significantly improve user safety and comfort in hot regions.

Hi @AnnaS1 welcome to Connect. Possibly Google is already working on something along those lines:

This was one of the news items in the most recent episode of the LetsGuide Podcast

@AnnaS1 @JanVanHaver Great idea !!!

I would have loved to have this feature during my trip to Florence a few weeks ago, it would have been extremely useful :slight_smile:
