As a manga artist, I often have to buy supplies to draw. Most items can now be found on the Internet, but I would rather buy at an art supply store where I can test the comfort of drawing for myself. Even though I have tried many pens and pencils over the years, I still enjoy trying new ones, as I use different ones depending on what I draw. For instance, if I paint a character’s black hair, I now know that I am more comfortable using a pen named Fude pen.
Sekaido is an art supply store chain that can be found all over Japan. One can buy from any of their twelve physical locations or on their online store.
My favorite one is located in Tokyo. It is the original Sekaido store and the biggest of their physical locations. There, I can find many types of pens. Whenever I need to buy a new Fude pen for instance, I can look through the 40 different types of these pens they have in stock. They provide testing pens and papers, so I can try any pen I like and make sure it is really comfortable for drawing.
The shop also sells all types of items for different arts, like painting, calligraphy, sculpturing, etc.
By paying for a two years membership card (at a cost of 500 yen (about 4$)), not only will you be added to a special newsletter, but you will also receive a 7% cashback voucher on every purchase, redeemable on your next visit in any of their physical locations. This membership card has a very unique design, a picture of Mona Lisa’s surprised face.
