I was very lucky to be able to visit Sanya for 2 weeks while working at a boat Show. Sanya is a holiday city on the Southern Most Tip of the Island of Hainan . It is China’s most Southern City.
As I am from South Africa , coming to Sanya was a culture shock. In China they do things the chinese way . For Instance . If your on Holiday , then dress like your on Holiday. Sandals , hats and friends or couples will dress in the same outfit as a statement that they are on holiday and proud of it .
As the Island Of Hainan is in the South China sea , many of the fisherman rest and restock and repair their boats in Sanya . They tie up together in the River and as you can see use smaller rafts to get to their boats .
I explored allot of the smaller back streets , and although there are some very expensive hotels , there are also many average homes as well. I was amazed at how people take pride in who they are no matter how poor they are .
The Phoenix islands . At Night magnificent LED light shows can be seen across all these buildings. Its spectacular .
This is my Video I made with Music showing the Lights that showcase this beautiful City .
The city is renowned for its tropical climate and has emerged as a popular tourist destination, also serving as the training site of the Chinese beach volleyball national team. The city has become known as “China’s Hawaii”, drawing many retirees from mainland during winter. @user_not_found@sany2@user_not_found@CA@user_not_found@user_not_found@FaridTDF

Hi @Mongoose !
You’re right, from your photos and videos it seems that the name “China’s Hawaii” is really right!
I like to see that in the evening this city lights up with a thousand colors, it takes away the sadness of the night!
Gracias por tu tag @Mongoose , muchos de estos lugares son algunos que en ovaciones deseo visitar, tu historia y fotos me conmueven, ya que llegaste a tomar la esencia de muchos de los aspectos vitales del lugar, muy buen post.
It is great to hear that you also made it to Sanya! Just as you say, Hainan island and the city of Sanya are considered to be “China’s Hawaii” where many people decide to spend their vacation. I have personally never been there, but always wished to go there. I had some friends who studied there, I believe they enjoyed warm weather and fresh air.
When you visited there what impressions did you have about this city and island as a whole? Is it still preserved, can you sense the nature, are there some places left untouched by humans that you saw?
P.S. I am removing the link that you shared at the bottom of your post as it includes advertising and seems like self-advertising which is in violation of the Local Guides program rules.
A massive LED screen we almost got arrested for taking photos of it.
I found Sanya very Polarized , Loads of opposites all the time. . Most of the time , I was not aware or educated about a cultural thing , so I was ignorant.
I was blown away by the Electric Motorbikes and Lack of Air Pollution … One always has this idea that Air pollution is going to be bad , It wasn’t , The Water Pollution was. . There were also very dense pockets of Natural Vegetation , and I was not able to go explore further inland. I was amazed by the amounts of sea life , just go to the local market to view all sorts of Molluscs , fish , Urchins , Octopus and loads more. ALL alive , as Its only fresh if its alive…
And Everything is Old and New. You will see , Rich and Poor … And there are beautiful little reasons for things . I made it my priority to politely find out why certain things were different from what I was used to.
For Instance , As in the photo above , Sometimes Grand Ma or Grand Pa are left to look after the charging of electric scooters and sell some home made foods while they are at it. They are not just forgotten in Old Age homes , they are made to feel like participating contributing members of society. .
