San Jose Municipal Rose Garden

I thought of sharing this since fellow localguides will be visiting San Jose for ConnectLive 2019.

Spring time is great time to visit, with roses in full bloom. Weekends this place gets very busy with people doing photo shoots. Perfect place for a graduation, engagement photo shoots. Week days will be less crowded. You can pretty much find all kinds of roses :rose:. Nice place for a picnic as well. You can find blooms from April to November. Also many local photogrpahy groups have held their meetups in this location. November may not be the best time to visit, you may still find blooms, since it is early winter.

Thanks for sharing these photos of the garden in bloom, @jayasimha78 ! @brittym and I went in March but there were only a handful of blooms.

@TraciC March is probably too early in the season, also pruning happens in early winter, may not be the best time to visit. In the month of May you will find full bloom.

This is beautiful @jayasimha78 . Thanks for thinking about Connect Live 2019 attendees.

Unfortunately there will be noting blooming in November for anything to see. As soon as the weather turns cooler and frost hits in the early morning, the rose blooming season Is over.

Did you know at one time up until the 1990s San Jose and Santa Clara County was pretty much agriculture? Grew flowers, like these roses and chrysanthemums and gladiolus , in commercial green houses to sell as part of the American cut flowers industry and fruit orchards (Stone fruits in particular- apricots, nectarines, peaches). There was an active Del Monte cannery in San Jose to can all this fruit and to be sold in grocery stores (up to 1970s I believe).

Cheers,

Karen

@KarenVChin You are absolutely right, November may be too late to see the bloom.

I moved to this area in 1993, yes we have seen quite a bit of change in this area.

i’m sure the changes have been dramatic where you are for sure @jayasimha78 . The past 9 years have really changed the whole Bay Area.
