San Francisco Japanese Tea Garden

Japanese Tea Garden.gif

Cover photo created by @jayasimha78 using pictures shot during the visit to Japanese Tea Garden.

This Japanese Tea Garden in San Francisco is located inside Golden Gate Park. This is walking distance from San Francisco Botanical Garden and couple of Museums. Even though I have lived in San Francisco Bay area for a long time, this was my first visit to Japanese Tea Garden. There is $10 entry fee for adults between Oct- Feb, it goes to $12 from March - September. There is a discount for San Francisco residents, if you show proof of residence.

All pictures are captured by mobile phone and edited using Snapseed.

Here is the picture of the entrance to the tea garden. Ticket counter is located right at the entrance. They have slightly reconfigured the park to maintain social distancing during this pandemic.

Here is shot of the garden with koi pond and tea house which is located in the garden.

This garden was originally created in 1894 as “Japanese Village” exhibit for Mid Winter International exposition. It was 1 acre is size at that time. Now the garden is around 5 acres in size.

Here are few shots of Tea house and the menu of the Tea House.

There is a small gift shop in the garden, here a collage of few shots of the gift shop

There are several stone lanterns through out the park, here is a shot of couple of them which are right next to the pond.

Here is an interesting bridge, which is little difficult to climb, which is very popular with visitors to take pictures. Here you can see few visitors standing to take pictures.

Here is a reflection shot of the pond and a unique stone lantern.

There are couple of pagodas in the park, the red one is very beautiful. There is another larger pagoda, which is undergoing some restoration, garden is doing a fundraising to restore the pagoda.

A close shot of Pagoda, a great place to take pictures as well.

What is a Japanese garden without a Buddha statue, here is a shot of large Buddha statue in the tea garden.

I don’t get tired of shooting these stone lanterns. in fact I have decided to buy one for my backyard along with couple of Japanese Maple trees. Hopefully I can fulfil my wish!

shot of the garden with structure at the entrance and ticket counter.

You can finds stone bridges over those ponds in the park. You can also see warning posted to the visitors to use caution while crossing.

Another shot pf red Pagoda with trees to next to it.

Shot of the pond and the structure at the entrance.

More stone lanterns, another view within the garden.

Garden is really beautiful and peaceful, if you like Japanese gardens, you will definitely enjoy this place.

Simple narration with beautiful photos.

Thanks for sharing.

That bridge looks really difficult to climb… Any known reason why they have built it like that?

Yes, you are right… The Lanterns look very pretty.

We too wish you - may the Maple tree & lantern reach your backyard soon.

@TravellerG Thank You! Got my one wish, need to plant those maple trees soon. I need to looks for those stone lanterns next. Thanks for your best wishes.

Not sure why they built the bridge like that, probably to make something challenging and interesting. I will find out more when I visit next time.

@ErmesT Thank You. I can see the picture of the pagoda which is under restoration in one of the comments on your post. I was wondering how does that tall pagoda looks. In fact this was my first visit to Japanese Tea Garden, even though I have been to Golden Gate Park many times.

Oh, the pagoda is small, @jayasimha78

Wonderful photos and post, @jayasimha78 - the Golden Gate Park Japanese Tea Garden is one of those places I MUST visit whenever I am in the Bay Area. It is such a wonderful escape from the franticness of the city and it is so peaceful and quiet and relaxing when you’re within its boundaries. Here are some of my favorite shots from my previous visits!
