San Francisco Hidden Gem: Lucasfilm, Where Star Wars Is Born!

“I am your father!” With this iconic quote, Star Wars is undoubtedly one of the hugest movie IPs in the movie industry. And where is this legendary series born? Lucasfilm, located in the Presidio of San Francisco, California, USA, a park once a military post, is the place with the strongest force on earth!

The media company itself is closed for the public visit (of course), but the lobby is open for tourists to take pictures with real size replicas of their classic characters, such as R2D2 and Darth Vader. Also, don’t miss the Yoda Fountain outside. Definitely a must-go for Star Wars fans!

Are you a fan of Star Wars? Which movie is your favourite?

So cool! Have been to San Francisco many times did NOT even know about this. Even though it only seems like the lobby is the only open area for the public, it still looks cool enough to drop by.

Nice post, @ChanneLing - thanks for sharing this!

Looks like I have to pay another visit to San Francisco @ChanneLing ! I visited the city when I was just a kid and I’m no sure this display even existed back then.

I recently bought the first three movies (4, 5 and 6) on DVD because I was itching to watch them again. They will always be my favorite of the nine. In fact I’m not really that much into the three most recent ones.

I’ll make sure to put this place on my list for my next visit!

Hi @SP31 ,

Thanks for your comment. I’m glad you enjoyed the post! :slightly_smiling_face:

Actually they even have a gift shop but it’s not open for general public. Only guests brought by employees can shop there, which is really a pity. But it’s still worth a visit! Cheers!

Then it’s a must-see for me @ChanneLing !

I’m eagerly waiting to see The Mandalorian too, I’ve heard so many good things about it. However, it’s not yet released in Denmark so I’ll have to wait until the summer.

Cool! @MortenSI

You meant the TV series? I didn’t know that there’s one before you told me lol.

I don’t think it’s released in Taiwan neither. Hope it’d be released soon!

Yes the TV-series exactly @ChanneLing , I hear it’s a breath of fresh air for the franchise, especially after the last three movies which I honestly didn’t like that much either.

I’m not sure about Taiwan but I read that it will release in Denmark in the summer. I can’t wait!

@MortenSI @I googled it and found that it’s aired on Disney+.

I don’t know how long it’s gonna take for us to watch it on TV. Maybe we could subscribe it? I guess.

That’s exactly it @ChanneLing , the Disney+ is what I’m waiting for, and should be set to be available to sign up for in Denmark in the summer.

That’s good! @MortenSI Sadly, they haven’t announced any plan about it in Asia yet. I saw news saying that the Asia region may have to wait till 2021. Maybe it’s faster for us to buy a US account or else lol.

I don’t see any confirmed schedule for release in Asia either @ChanneLing , so perhaps you will have to wait unless you find another way of watching it.

I don’t mind waiting a bit more and will fill out the time re-watching the first six movies. I’m currently watching the very first ones again and haven’t seen them since I was a kid. It’s funny how your memory of a movie can be very different from how you experience it 20 years later. Back then I thought the special effects were out of this world! Watching it again now I laughed the first time a lightsaber was shown.

True! @MortenSI Last night I saw The Matrix 3 playing on TV and the special effects are… well, still awesome in today (since the base color tone of the film is quite dark so it’s less likely to look outdated), but we could still tell that it’s something definitely not current. I remember back then, when the series first came out, it was eye shocking.

It’s just amazing to see how special effects technology advances and how it rises the audience’s horizon.

The Matrix is a very good example @ChanneLing and an awesome trilogy too! I remember how the famous slow motion bullet dodging move by Keanu Reeves blew my mind back when it first came out. I still think the effects are quite good for a 90’s movie but there’s no doubt they can make it much better now.

I’m very much into video games too and once in a while I bring out the old console to re-play a classic from the 90’s or early 2000’s. It always surprises me how bad the graphics actually were. In my mind, the graphics were flawless back then but compared to modern day games they’re really not great.

The nostalgic feeling still wins it for me though.

I can totally relate. @MortenSI

The nostalgic feelings do sell, not just for us but for many people lol. It’s like people in my parents’ ages always say the 60s-80s is the golden years and has the best music, arts, and films.

Speaking of video games, did you watch an animation film called Wreck-It Ralph? It’s just so heart-warming to see classic game characters featured in the movie, so is for Ready Player One.

I’ve seen both of them actually @ChanneLing . I saw Wreck It Ralph a few years ago and really enjoyed it. I remember hearing something about a sequel possibly being made but I’m not entirely sure.

I saw Ready Player One just a few weeks ago when I saw that it was released on Netflix. I loved the very classic story and all the small references to video games they put in the movie. Overall a very good experience!

I hope they will make a sequel to it but I’m not sure where the story would pick up.

Yes, they have a sequel. @MortenSI Ralph Breaks the Internet was out in 2018. Like the first one, it’s very fun to watch. But still, I like the first one better.

For Ready Player One, I hope there’d be a sequel too. I saw news saying that it might be out in 2022, and I hope it’d be great!

I’ll see if I can find that sequel @ChanneLing !

I hope you’re right about a new Ready Player One movie! Maybe the will call it Ready Player two. If Steven Spielberg chooses to direct the second one as well I’m sure it will be wroth a watch.

I hope so too! @MortenSI He’s like a box office guarantee lol.

Exactly @ChanneLing , and he just has a way of making any kind of movie a success.

I read that he and his contacts in the industry was the only reason they were allowed to include so many references and characters from gaming franchises.

It sounds like they won’t be able to make a sequel without him.
