Hello everyone!
Hope you all are doing great and all set for the weekend.
With this post, I am simply sharing my love for saarees- traditional Indian wear!
Saaree is Elegance! That’s right, if you have ever worn a saaree (perfectly called as Saadi in Marathi)/ seen someone in Saaree, you wouldn’t think twice to say that Elegance never goes out of style in Saaree!
- As most of us know, Saaree is one of the most loved outfits in India and outside the world.
Saaree is literally considered the standard outfit for almost all occassions in Maharashtra. In recent years it has gone through tremendous timely updates in terms of modernization, bridal requirements and otherwise. Considering the diversity in ethnic wear amongst Indians, the basic patterns remain the same with variation across the states.
The most famous silk sarees are known to be an exclusive collection of Chennai followed by Benaras, Kanchipuram etc. Although the saarees from various states come in different designs and styles it is less known that they are actually manufactured from silk obtained from different silkworms. For example, Tussar silk is one of the finest silk obtained from cocoons of Antheraea paphia silkworm and manufactured in Bhagalpur (silk city). The other verieties include Mulberry, Eri and Muga silk with Mulberry silk being finest and costliest amongst all.
Few of the famous varieties of saaree includes Banarasi saaree, Patola, Paithani, Chanderi, Kasta/Nau-vari, Kanjivaram, Bandhani, Phulkari, Chikankari etc.
Being Maharashtrian, I am more familiar with Saha-vari and Nau-vari saarees.
Although there are subtle variations in saaree draping amongst various states in India, the basic technique (mostly) remains the same. The famous and very common Saha-vari is the typical way of saaree draping usually known to everyone followed by Nau-vari which just has some extra fabric to drape the saaree differently.
Saaree is for all occassions in Maharashtra! Usually weedings are more colourful with bright Saha-vari and nau-vari saarees not just in Maharashtra but throughout India.
If you have anything more to add to this, please do!
