Ryogoku station and Sumo #monthlytopic of February, 2020

#monthlytopic of this month is “Station”, so let me introduce “Ryogoku Sta.” in Tokyo.

This station is near Ryogoku kokugikan.

It’s a famous place for the Sumo Grand Tournament.

There are some motifs related Sumo here.

The portraits of Yokozuna (sumo wrestler of the highest rank),

Handprints of sumo wrestlers, an object in imitation of Dohyo (an arena sumo ring), and more.

Also, there are a lot of restaurant serving Chanko which is familiar dish sumo wrestlers eat.

In most of cities, there is some debate as to whether what to sell as a symbol. But this town around Ryogoku Sta. is naturally build connections with the local community as a “sumo town”. That means that sumo has long been loved by people (So am I!)

今月の #monthlytopic が「駅」とのことなので、東京の「両国駅」を紹介します。

この駅は両国国技館の近くにあります。両国国技館は、大相撲が行われることで有名な場所です。

そのため、両国駅の改札内には、相撲にちなんだものがいくつかあります。

横綱の肖像画や、手形や、土俵を模したものなどなど。

両国駅周辺も、力士が食べることでお馴染みのちゃんこ鍋のお店が多くあります。

（このお店は電車の中から見えます。両国駅に着いたことを教えてくれます）

だいたいの町は、「何を町のシンボルとして売り出すか」が議論になります。しかしこの場所は、自然と「相撲の町」として根付いています。相撲がいかに長い間、人々に愛されているかがわかります（私も相撲が好きです！）

このフォントはなかなか見ないので、私も驚きました！最寄駅から相撲のモチーフに溢れていると、会場までの道のりがワクワクしますね。とても良い駅だと思います！

@Anzu さん、それはとても興味深い記事ですよね。ご紹介いただきありがとうございます。私は東京の両国国技館に行ったことがありませんが行きたいです。

「両国国技館」は相撲でしか使われることがないと思っている方も多いようですが、実はコンサートやプロレスで使われることもあり、2020年に開催される東京オリンピックではボクシング競技会場として使われる予定ですよね。

国技館で見る相撲はとても楽しいですよ～。私も去年はじめて、ローカルガイドの友人に連れて行ってもらいました。

そういえばボクシングもやりますね！いよいよかと思うと待ち遠しいです

相撲も「東京２０２０オリンピック・パラリンピック場所（GRANDSUMO Olympic and Paralympic Games Tokyo 2020）」をやるそうなので、どちらも楽しみです！
