Russian North

Hi Local Guides!

I’d like to tell you about Russian North.

It is the big region on Northern european part of Russia.

It is very interesting and unknown part of Russia. But it’s historical init of Russian civilization. There are many old historical cities here such as Novgorod, Yaroslavl, Vologda, Arkhangelsk and other. Novgrod - the initial city of Russian civilization, Vologda is one of the biggest northern city, and known as the capital of Russian North. Arkhangelsk was the biggest port before St. Petersburg was founded.

The nature of Russian North is very beautiful, lots of forests, lakes, rivers here. Harvesting of wild berries and mushrooms is very popular here. ) Unfortunately the climate unkindly, so no much people lives here. Winter in very snowy so skiing is great! )

Lots of historical and cultural places saved in Russian North. Lots of wooden interesting old houses and beautiful churches you can find here. Many volunteers come here and help to repair them. I was in one team too. It’s very interesting experience.

To big cities of Russian North you can get by train from Moscow. But in more interesting places you can get by car only.

I have some public albums in Google Photos with photos of Russian North.
