Roads and addresses not being accepted

Hi all,

Ive recently tried to add both roads and new addresses and i have a message “Not Applied” “Google couldnt verify your edit”. This is getting vert frustrating as i know the place exists. For some reason the algorithm doesnt like the edit. Ive added store hours, websites, photos, manually in putted the address ex still no luck. And as far as adding the road you can clearly see the bike path on the map and it was labeled a bike path. Still no luck

Please HELP

Talvez unos dias o semanas.

Hi @RyanFisch Can you send a link to the address and the name you are suggesting so I can try on my end?

Hola @RyanFisch . Lo acabo de intentar, mismo resultado. ¿Talvez tienes más información al respecto? Horarios, Fecha de inauguración, Fotos, etc. A ver si varios de nosotros lo intentamos y se agrega.

I also thought of that. For some reason, it uploaded these four places but the location of the photos is listed as “unknown place”. They don’t really have normal hours as they just record their shows there but I marked it as Sunday - Friday 10-4.

@RyanFisch I tried 4 times and it didn’t work out. However, here’s what I observed:

  1. The address you shared is close to another studio:
https://goo.gl/maps/XvxhYhdPkVHWELGZ9. I can’t tell for sure, but this can lead to a confusion in the algorithm

  2. The address is the same address as the Big Walnut Creek Nature Reserve on Google Maps. Do you know why? I tried to long press on the address and it led to that reserve.

I am suggesting you send me the Google Maps link to the correct address so I can try again.

Also be mindful that the algorithm sometimes checks if the name matches the category. I’ve seen a situation where you add a lounge as a hotel and it’s not accepted, but as soon as you edit the category, it gets approved.

If nothing works out at all, I will ask you to tell them that they will add it as a business waiting for a verification by Google Business Team. This works 100%.

@Baptenda

The address is https://goo.gl/maps/mx5kSLYeS4ZiKjFi8

it used to be a church which I successfully marked as closed. The new proper name for the location is Drinkin’ Bros Studios and I’ve been trying to mark it as a recording studio.

@RyanFisch I was able to troubleshoot the issue now. Thanks for sharing the link.

As you can see in the edit history from my screenshot attached, Google Maps algorithm is having difficulty accepting the name containing “Drinkin’”. Also when the category is “Recording studio”, the edit is rejected.

I have now added it as “Bros Studio”, category of “Art studio”, and the website is also added. Let me know if I can delete it altogether and you will use the other option of adding it as a Google Business Profile.

OMG, what a sequence of mistakes in here, @RyanFisch , @Baptenda , @gabito705

As far as I can see from their website, @RyanFisch , the place do not has access to the public, and there is not a fixed time where the “customers” can visit the location, so the place “SHOULD NOT BE IN GOOGLE MAPS”. According to the Guidelines for representing your business on GoogleIf your business either has a physical location that customers can visit, or travels to customers where they are, you can create a Business Profile on Google”.

This business only provide Online (web) services, and they sell all product online. As the scope of Google Maps is to help us to reach and visit a place, there is no reason for the location to be in Google Maps.

Trying to help by adding a place that we don’t know personally with the aim to help is another big (huge) mistake, @Baptenda , @gabito705 , and more in this case because you are adding (not having any idea about the place) a location that should not be in Google Maps. As you can read in Maps user-generated content policycontributions must be based on real experiences and information” and, as far as I can see, none of you have a “real experience” of the location. In this case I am sure @RyanFisch is doing this with good intentions but, what if a spammer write a post asking to add a FAKE location? Would you help him in the same way, asking to “send a link to the address and the name you are suggesting so I can try on my end”???

Regarding the rest of your question, @RyanFisch , the verification of a place is made by an “online check” so, before to add a place, makes sure the place is listed in a public register or database available online. For more details please read: Why is my edit status “Pending” or “Not Applied”?

I personally have no issues in adding roads (I actually have more than 2000 roads approved) . What tool do you use for adding roads?

I also want to inform you that Road Mapper (the topic where you posted) is reserved for posts about Road Mapper, a specific place for talking about this program, that has been designed for adding roads in selected countries. For more details please read Frequently Asked Questions: Road Mapper .

For this reason, and to have more helps by the community, I am asking to @TsekoV to move your post on How Tos

The “Drinkin’ Bros Studios” location 100% allows access to the public. They encourage the public and their listeners to come in to the studios while they are recording their shows. They have a subscriber base of over 110,000 and have been around for 5+ years. Once the new place is accepted on Google the hours will be added, but you know what they say one thing at a time. Please dont assume you have all of the information, you dont.

@Baptenda and @gabito705 have been incredibly helpful in trying to help me out. I believe one of them were right when they said it seems that Google does not like the slang word of Drinkin’ in the title.

@ErmesT

As far as the post on roads go I will look into the posts you linked below. I have not made many post in the past and apologies if I posted the wrong topic or posted multiple topics in one.

Hi @ErmesT I understand why you are surprised, but I think sometimes the algorithm may reject a real addition. That’s why humans can intervene and support. I have been getting support from the Google Maps Community when a place is not correct. You can read an example here.

Whether this place @RyanFisch posted exists or not, I think he said it exists and it is not added as a Google Business Profile which is what you wanted to mean. For example, he mentioned that it’s a studio and you can see that on their Twitter page, they have videos recorded there.

If this community is not for support, let me know but I am sure I asked @RyanFisch if he thinks the name I added is enough or not. FYI, I have removed it again (You can check on Gmaps).

Finally, I provided a suggestion that should work: Add it as a Google Business Profile and start a human verification process.

Again thank you to everyone. We are all here to better the community and help Google become easier for everyone to use.
I have been in contact with the owner from the beginning and have advised him to clam the Business and try to update it on his own.

HI @RyanFisch

I meant that the owner can use this link and open it on a computer (not mobile) and then go to “Add your business” and follow the next steps. This skips the “Claim as your business” while it’s not even on Google Maps yet. See the screenshot below.

Thanks for the feedback, @RyanFisch , I am happy to know that the place is open to the public.

However, if we are not able to add a place, the best option should be to suggest them to add and claim the place by themselves. Especially in USA Google Business Profile is very common, and it can gives to the owner more options to manage the listing directly, e.g. by posting updates, or responding to the reviewers.

What a good scammer do, @gabito705 , @Baptenda , is to build a good and credible website and a social media account, then they ask to people who (with good intention) can add the place. That’s why Google Maps ask for a personal experience about the location. This is one of the reasons why we have rules. I am quite sure that 99% of the people who ask for help is real, but a single Fake Location can create a lot of Real discomfort to the people. Not to Maps, to the people that is living in the area. There are famous (reported) situation even here in Connect of scammers that was acting in such way. So it is extremely important to know the place “personally”.

I am trying to help in your country too, e.g. adding roadshereermest_0-1661177180531.png

In your example, @Baptenda , the issue about Rwanda was escalated by the PEs to the Google Maps team, because it was an issue about the Map Layer. This is completely different from creating a Listing in Google Maps, and writing in there was the right thing to do. The two things should not be confused

Hi @RyanFisch ,

Thank you for reaching out. Please note that I moved your post to the How-tos board. Here, you can swap advice with other Local Guides and share how to create helpful contributions on Google Maps and Connect.

To make the most of your experience on Connect, you can take a look at this Your guide to Connect topic. Also, I recommend you read How to choose a topic for your Connect post before your next post.
