Back in the day, it was run by private companies, even transporting horse-drawn carriages! Can you imagine?

It’s one of the last free ferry services in the United States, making it a total steal for the amazing views you get. Seriously, where else can you get front-row seats to the Manhattan skyline, the Statue of Liberty, and Governors Island without paying a dime?
Charting the Course
The ferry runs 24/7, 365 days a year, so you can hop on whenever the mood strikes. 
During peak hours, boats leave every 15-20 minutes, and even during off-peak times, you won’t be waiting too long. The ride itself takes about 25 minutes each way, giving you plenty of time to soak in the sights and snap some Insta-worthy pics. 
How to Hop Aboard
Getting on the ferry is super easy. Just head to either the St. George Ferry Terminal on Staten Island or the Whitehall Terminal in Manhattan. Follow the signs for the Staten Island Ferry. There are no tickets or reservations needed – just walk right on!
Find a spot on the deck for the best views, or grab a seat inside if the weather isn’t cooperating. Once you arrive at the other side, you can either explore the area or simply hop right back on the next ferry for another free ride and different perspectives. It’s that simple!
