In our ever-changing technological world, we sometimes lose precious treasures from the past, like old cinema halls or movie theaters. These places hold a special place in my heart, filled with sweet childhood memories of family and friends gathered in joyful anticipation of the latest films. Unfortunately, many of these cinemas have disappeared, replaced by modern cineplexes.
Recently, I had the opportunity to revisit one such gem, the Shyamoli Cinema Hall in Dhaka. My last visit was in 2012, when the room had its own seedy charm. But this time, I was pleasantly surprised to find it renovated, cleaner and more welcoming than ever.
I deliberately chose this movie theater over the glitzy cinemas because I wanted to relive those precious memories from my youth. The layout of a movie theater is different from that of a cineplex. It offers two distinct galleries, one on the ground floor and a luxury gallery on the first floor. You can watch the film downstairs and soak up the crowd’s reactions - a truly unique and nostalgic experience.
As I settled into my seat, I couldn’t help but smile, feeling the charm of this old movie theater wash over me again. It was a trip back in time, a delicious escape from the modern world. The Shyamoli Cinema Hall, with its enduring character, still holds the power to transport us to simpler and more enchanting days.
