I have had three reviews in the last year (out of like 150) appear to be submitted but never actually visible on the business’s reviews. All three are for restaurants. Two of them have been positive reviews, and one was quite negative. I can tell that they didn’t publish by going into an anonymous browser and they are not visible on the business’s page.
What are some reasons for this? Is there anything I can do other than delete and re-submit? Will that even work? I tried editing in two cases and resubmitting and that did not make them visible.
In one case I was one of the first people to review a new location for a restaurant, and I was very excited to see how far my photos would go, so it was sad face day when I realized they had not been published.

Hello @edbrill welcome to the Local Guides community!
All posted reviews, photos and videos are checked by an AI filter, not only for obeying the rules, but also and most importantly to fight SPAM and false information. Just a little suspicion causes the review to be rejected and hidden to the public.
Unfortunately, Google will never tell us the exact reason and doesn’t even notify us, if that happens, as you already found out.
If there are photos or videos attached to a review and only one of them is rejected, the entire review including all other attached media will be hidden.
In fact, I can tell 10 out of your 191 reviews and 16 of your 386 photos are hidden:
Therefor as a first step, I suggest to remove all hidden media and watch if the text-only review is accepted.
For more information, I recommend to read How to Get In and Out of Trouble: The Main post.
In fact deleting and re-submitting without changing anything, is the worst thing you can do. It will be rejected again and you risk to get banned for spamming.
You might also post a link to one of those places here, together with a screenshot of you rejected review. Possibly some other local guides can give some hints.
Hope this helps for now. Please let us know, if you have questions.

thank you for the excellent response.
Didn’t know it was ten, but I can imagine a few others that haven’t had any traction.
One of them was for Din Tai Fung in NYC, and I wrote it as an acronym once. That acronym has, ahem, other meanings.
But Relish Supper Club in Germantown WI? That seems innocuous.

Thanks for sharing this review @edbrill.
I don’t see anything wrong in the text, but as I said before, remove all photos (download first if you don’t have the originals) and then watch if text-only is accepted.
If so, attach them one-by-one, to see which of them caused the problem.

now that’s cool. Should I add photos back?

By the way I liked your link and the whole guide around good and bad posts! Those will help me in the future…

Yes, you can now add photos. But if your review doesn’t appear again after adding photos, it means your photos are triggering spam filters.

Thank you, I appreciate the feedback.
Quite a while ago, I decided not to attach any photos to my reviews, but post them directly to the listing. That way I know exactly which one is rejected, if any and doesn’t hide the review.

well, I uploaded six pics, this one is absolutely uploaded but not displaying.

Happened to me several times that wasn’t able to figure out, why it was rejected.
I guess, sometimes the AI “sees” something, we cannot imagine.
For my photos, I am using the cloud vision API to generated tags based on the image. The majority of those generated tags is just nonsense.
