I am facing an issue with one of my recent reviews on Google Maps. I recently added a detailed review for a location, but it seems that my review is not visible to others or the public. Only I am able to see it when I am logged into my account.
Could anyone please guide me on:
Why might a review be hidden even if it follows the content policies?
Is there a specific waiting period for a review to become public?
What steps can I take to ensure my review is visible to everyone?
Any advice or insight from experienced Local Guides would be greatly appreciated.
Hi @Ramsk, don’t worry, this is a very common issue lately. Your review was most likely caught by Google’s automated spam filters. Even when you follow all the policies perfectly, the AI can sometimes falsely flag reviews (often due to specific keywords, too many photos uploaded at once, or server glitches).
There isn’t a long waiting period—if it is only visible to you, it is stuck in the filter. Here are a few steps you can take to fix this:
Check your ‘Contributions’ tab to see if there is an ‘Appeal’ button next to that specific review. If you see it, click it to request a manual check.
Try editing the review slightly. Make sure there are no links, phone numbers, email addresses, or excessive emojis. Hit save again, as this sometimes forces the system to re-evaluate it.
If it still doesn’t work, could you please share a screenshot of the actual review text here? Sometimes we can spot a specific trigger word that the filter might not like.
Hi @Ramsk, thanks for tagging me and sharing the screenshots! I took a close look at your review for Fort Dadhikar.
The text itself looks perfectly fine and beautifully written! However, I spotted the most likely reason why it has been hidden by the automated system: The profile name posting the review is ‘V Education’.
Google Maps is very strict about reviews representing personal experiences from individuals. When the AI spam filter detects a profile name that sounds like a business, company, or institution (like ‘V Education’) instead of a real human name, it almost always automatically shadowbans the reviews to prevent potential promotional spam.
Here is the step-by-step solution you can try:
Change your Google account profile name from ‘V Education’ to your real, personal name.
Once the name is updated, edit your review slightly (just add or remove a space) and hit post. This forces the algorithm to re-evaluate the review with your new name.
If it is still hidden after that, try removing the multiple photos and the video clip you attached and post just the text. Sometimes uploading too much media at once can also trigger the filter. If the text goes public, you can add the media back one by one later.
Give this a try and let us know if it fixes the issue! Happy mapping!
You also posted 1,045 photos and 146 videos, but only 967 media are public, thus 224 photos or videos are hidden too.
The filter not only checks for obeying the rules, but also looks for entries suspicious for SPAM. If you attach photos or videos to a review and only one of them, is rejected, the entire review and all other attached media will be hidden.
The two reviews you share have no personal perspectives. It is just some general remarks that anyone could have written. Please avoid all such general remarks. What is helpful is your honest reflections based on your visit/experience as a customer.
Wikipedia style texts, texts that sounds like it could be in a (tourist) brochure, or on a website have no place in Google Maps reviews. Maps users expect to read your experience not what you know or have read.
Maybe you could use these 4 questions to check which of your reviews need some work.
There are several of your other reviews that need to be deleted or improved.
