Review not showing on Google Maps

I posted a review for Hotel Polaris, Gangtok on Google Maps over a 3 week ago. While the review appears under my Google account’s contributions, it is not publicly visible on the hotel’s Google Maps listing. Can you please check and help me in resolving this issue.

Hi, @musafirhoon!
Welcome to Local Guides Connect!

This is a problem that had happened to many Local Guides. Nowadays, Google has applied a spam filter to remove many fake contributions, and unfortunately it also takes down the good and detailed reviews. You can try to edit your review to find the reason it is got hidden. It could be happened from the word chosen in the review, but it could also be happened from the photos and videos sent in that review. For the photos and videos, you can delete it all and add one by one.

This is the detail that can help you to evaluate your hidden reviews: How to get help evaluating hidden reviews - Google Maps tips & tricks - Local Guides Connect and Common Review Violations - Google Maps tips & tricks - Local Guides Connect

Hi @ALG87, I’ve edited my review, but I’m not sure why this issue persists. The same problem has occurred with previous reviews as well. If possible, could someone review my feedback to check if any further changes are needed to ensure it’s visible to other users/travelers?

That also happened in my reviews, too, and I tried for so many times to edit my reviews, to erase my photos and videos first, and adding it again one by one. And for so many times I did something like that, I still don’t understand about the reason why my reviews got hidden by Google (I think that the Google algorithm is just really complicated and unexpected). But sometimes, there are some possibilities that the language that being used is too generic and can be made by someone who are not actually going there. Instead of writing “This hotel is so beautiful, the staffs are helpful, etc.”, we can share deeper story about the hotel, like talking about the accessibility for the wheelchairs.

Hi @musafirhoon, thanks for bringing this up. :folded_hands:
Sometimes reviews may not appear publicly if they are flagged by Google’s moderation system or if they don’t fully comply with the Maps policies.
I’d recommend checking the Maps User Contributed Content Policy and, if everything seems fine, you can also reach out via Google Maps Help Community.
Reviews usually appear once they are verified by the system, so it might just take a little more time. :hourglass_not_done:

I tried same multiple times but still my review is not public and not visible to the hotel’s Google review page for public.

@kurumipan @ALG87 I have attempted to resolve this issue but no success. Could someone from the Google Maps/Places team kindly review my submission and inform me of any reasons preventing my review from being published? Your assistance would be greatly appreciated, as I am a frequent traveler who values providing feedback on my experiences with accommodations, dining, and destinations. This guidance would be incredibly helpful for my future reviews.

I have asked someone close to the team, and she replied that the review problems are complicated, while we as the users can only say about the possible reasons of a review being moderated. Unfortunately, Google doesn’t want to tell us why a review being filtered and it is still trying to train its AI. So, take it easy. The only possibility is you can try to delete your review and post it again without photos and videos. Let’s see if your review will be filtered or not. If that’s the case, you can try to edit your review. Actually, this suggestion works for me a lot.

@ALG87 I’ve edited my review again. Hopefully, this time it will be approved and live for the public to see.

@ALG87 I am adding the screenshot of the review here as well for your review. Can you please check from your end as well and confirm if there is anything wrong in the post.

There are so many possibilities about that. One of your photos contain face of a person, that may violate a privacy term (but it is not always the case). You can delete it first. Maybe it will be better to change numbers like “3” to “three” and “10” to “ten”. If the problem still appears, modify your words by their synonym. Don’t post any photos or videos along the modification of the review to make sure that your review is “accepted” by Google. If that happens, you can add photos and videos one by one on the review, or add them on “Photos” tab separately from the review
