Review not posted due to content policies

Sorry, @I-am-Q

I was not aware that the new review reporting had reached you. So please disregard my previous reply.

Yes, you will need to appeal for each of your hidden reviews individually, right, @ErmesT ?

But if you are using the form shown in a screenshot above, then you should not and can not report the reviews individually.

I don’t yet know if one kind of appeal is better than the other or if using both can be an issue.

Cheers

Morten

No problem @MortenCopenhagen

I would like to mention by passing, that even if I have reviewed a place, I get a recommendation to review the place, as if it was the first time I see the place on the map (being there).

Thanks for the tag, @MortenCopenhagen , I am working on a post to try to make the process clear:

Hidden reviews with notification: there is a link to appeal for that specific review only. It is faster than the older form, and the operator will only check that specific review.

Hidden reviews without a notification: we should fill out the form shared in An update on how we moderate Google Maps reviews .

ALL reviews are hidden: we should ask for a global review of the account using this form

Regarding the suggestion to write a review, I was preparing a short post also about this subject, as it can cause some confusion.

Clicking in there you will go to the existing review. If you don’t need to change it, just skip the suggestion: click on the three dots and select “Dismiss”

Good day.
Yes, I have followed the instructions I found here yesterday (appeal, form). I understand that the whole process may take some time. I also understand that the algorithm will probably still be evolving and I can expect some changes.

On the other hand, I still don’t understand the approval process. Example - review on: Novomlýnská vodárenská věž, Prague (visited about 2 weeks ago). I wrote a review with a bit of history and “supported” it with photos. The review was not approved. I submitted an appeal. The appeal was rejected.

What is wrong with the review?I don’t know. Is the review too long? I don’t know. Would someone try to tell me? Is the review too long? Too much history? Not enough description of the exposures? Is it really good to list everything and have a review hundreds of words long? It’s hard to say. This is what’s bothering me right now in the context of this new Google Maps situation. As I wrote in a previous post - I’m willing to rework rejected reviews over the months to better match the intent of Google Maps.

I have currently filed dozens of appeals. Some have been approved, units have not. Further, there are probably over a hundred reviews that have been rejected without the possibility of appeal. I’m just wondering - why? Again, I don’t know. I’ll add an example.

I will now add the reviews from the most recently visited sites. After that, I’ll stop for a few weeks. I’ll try to analyze the current status of reviews and their approvals. Then I’ll decide whether to continue the reviews or if it’s better to just post photos and videos.

Hello,
I understand your story. I thought something similar might occur with my 6 sculpture reviews. Paradoxically… When I checked yesterday, I found that 5 reviews of sculptures are approved and one review has not been published without the possibility of appeal. It is this erratic behavior of Google Maps that bothers me. But I wrote this in a previous post, and now in a reply to ErmesT.

Anyway, it’s so “weird” now. I’m currently adding reviews from viewpoints and from nearby rocks and caves. So that means - prepare the images (full resolution image gives bad results in Google Maps in the app and on the computer), write a review, wait a while, submit an appeal and then just hope that someone approves the review. Plus, I’m worried that since these places are relatively close together on the same hiking trail in the same “rock town”, it will be a problem again.

I’m looking forward to finishing what I have in progress and not having to deal with Google Maps for a few weeks. Then we’ll see.

Hi! I have the same issue.

It happened after I visited France, as I see in the comments it was tested in France. I remember when I visited Marselle last year in September all my reviews from there were not posted.

Now all my reviews are not posted :disappointed: Even these which were written long time ago.

I am local guide level 8.

I contacted Google support and they suggested to use another email address, which I don’t want.

Hello to everyone. I have the same problem here. I noticed that my third latest review got that banner that it is not posted anymore and then I started to look out my reviews and found out that majority of my reviews are not posted anymore. I can submit an appeal for the first review and I did but for the rest I should just post them again but have to do them separately… And I really don’t get what mistake I have made for my reviews. I have tried to be very careful with these.

Hi,

TL;DR: I’m very disappointed and considering not posting reviews any more!

I’ve been a Local Guide since the very beginning and have been submitting reviews to help the community. I’ve just recently been getting emails that my reviews are not posted or have been taken down due to “fake engagement”. I mostly write extensive reviews so people can get a good idea of the place they are looking to visit. These take time, thought and energy. They’re absolutely not fake and there’s something truly wrong with the AI if it’s flagging them.

I have submitted appeals for the ones that I have received being “not posted” but there was no warning in the email about how many other reviews I have that have been taken down. I still don’t know as there’s no filter (in the Google Maps app at least) to search for not posted reviews. So I would have to go through all of my 740+ reviews to see which of them have been falsely flagged as “fake”. This is just a terrible user experience!

I’ve also found some of my reviews that have been taken down do not have the option to appeal, just a message that I should edit and re-post. Again, a really bad experience.

This needs to be fixed!!!

  1. At the very least there needs to be a filter for users to be able to search for not posted reviews.

  2. There needs to be an “appeal” button with everything review that has been taken down, not just random ones

  3. The AI should know that high level Local Guides with tons of reviews who have been in the program since the beginning are less likely to submit fake reviews. We have a ranking system here, it seems like this is not taken into consideration.

I’m truly sas and disappointed and feel like my work, time and energy was wasted…

Hi, i’m facing the same issue here. Many of my reviews haven’t been posted due to “content policy”. honestly, i read the content and still don’t know what’s wrong with my reviews. This is quite frustrating and very demotivating to invest time to write reviews in future. And as a user i will now consider twice to take the Google reviews seriously when i see how they are moderated.

I’ve been getting approvals on my appeals in the recent days, however this is not a solution. If you bring in a new process in, the app should have tools that can be used to address the changes easily.

Hi all,

I’ve been experiencing the exact same issue recently, and being unaware this thread existed, I’ve Twittitted it: https://twitter.com/meeDamian/status/1671553182877483014, which in turn made me aware of this thread. So if any of you are still experiencing the before-mentioned review/content suppression feel free to also comment under my post on Twitter (which seems to have a much shorter reply time than here).

Let’s get the censorship of our opinions sorted  .

That is yet another example that Google AI is not ready to be public…
For me it is the same case as described in this thread. I was publishing stuff to maps even before local guides for the places i visited in real, publishing my real photos. Now I see that some AI says that my visits or opinions are not real…
Of course i can repost, appeal and fill some forms but not really understand why fixing that is more on me than on ones which screwed this AI?
Thanks Google for letting me know that i should stop posting for real…

Some example that i was there (and many of spheres are published):

but then:

I have other cases with longer and shorter descriptions (but i really think that star rating for some places should be enough). None of them, at least to my knowledge, is breaking the rules.

I also have a problem with reviews. I have 558 reviews and one day all of them became not posted. Appeal option is not under every review. Moreover when I select this option, my appeal was rejected. I would like to have my reviews restored. How it is possible to do? They were liked and ready others.

The same issue. I don’t understand AI logic at all. Some posts are published, some not. Appeals are not reviewed by moderators, appeals are rejected. So, don’t see the reason to share my experience on Google maps anymore. It looks like I need to be interested in reviews more than f.e. business owners of places, to which I post reviews. I posted really descriptive reviews.

Same issue here. I was posting a review of a restaurant and content was flagged.

I then noticed that many of my past reviews are in the “not posted” status for content policy.

Most of them are from my Michelin star restaurant where I usually post from 10 to 30 photos, depending on the size of the menu.

I already filled out the ticket for reviewing my account.

anyway, as a side note, I really don’t like the situation, is a serious break of trust of your users. We devoted many hours to review and describe multiple locations and in a blink of an eye all our free work is deleted by a wrong rollout and not careful tested policy. I am really disappointed.

La messe est dite.

Amen.

I hate these new algorithms. I’m sure there’s nothing wrong with my post. Algorithm should at least tell what is. wrong with it. Starting to hate this system.

Level 8 with 500+ reviews to share experiences and tips while traveling. If you look at my reviews I think you’ll agree I strive to be balanced and helpful to either other travellers or owners. Since a few months this “AI moderation” has randomly flagged as violations most of my postings. Appealing has reverted 100% of these and the posts have been published so a huge waste of time for me. Not sure I’ll keep contributing. Maybe high levels with hundreds of sound reviews should be trusted more than now? Common sense always better than AI (and I earn my living with AI) :slightly_smiling_face:

Same issue here. This AI is a serious bug which is undermining the incentive to be a Google guide. I filed 2 tickets about this and twice got the (automated?) response there are no penalties against my account. Is anybody from Google here reading this? I have one Linkedin connection working at Google who I sent this thread.

And again. Wtf
