Request for New Tag Options: Including "Religious Place/Spiritual Place" under the Category of "Google Maps Contribution Stories""

Dear Local Guides Connect Moderators, Googlers and Development Team,

I am writing to suggest the addition of new tag options for posts within the “Google Maps contribution stories” category, and potentially others, to better categorize and discover valuable content related to diverse points of interest.

Currently, while creating a new topic under “Google Maps contribution stories,” I noticed a comprehensive list of tags including “Food & drinks,” “Nature,” “Attraction,” “Culture,” “Local business,” “Accessibility,” “Gallery,” and “Museum.” These tags are indeed helpful in categorizing many types of contributions.

However, I have observed a significant gap when it comes to tagging religious structures and spiritual places such as temples, churches, mosques, synagogues, gurudwaras, and other significant religious sites. Many Local Guides, including myself, often contribute valuable information, photos, and reviews about these places, highlighting their architectural beauty, cultural significance, historical importance, and community role.

As it stands, there isn’t a single, appropriate tag to categorize such posts accurately. While some might consider using the “Culture” or “Attraction” tags, these don’t specifically address the religious or spiritual nature of the location. This lack of a dedicated tag makes it difficult for users interested in exploring religious landmarks to easily find relevant contributions.

Therefore, I propose the addition of a new tag, such as “Religious Place” or “Spiritual Place.” This would allow Local Guides to appropriately categorize their posts about these important locations, enhancing the discoverability and organization of content on the platform.

In addition to this primary request, I would also like to suggest a few other potentially useful tag options that could further enhance categorization:

  • Historical Site/Monument: For places of significant historical importance that may or may not be museums.
  • Community Space: For parks, community centers, and other places that serve as hubs for local gatherings.
  • Viewpoint: For locations known for their scenic views and panoramas.

I believe that incorporating these new tag options, especially a tag for “Religious Place/Spiritual Place,” would significantly improve the Local Guides Connect platform by allowing for more precise categorization and easier discovery of diverse and culturally rich content.

Thank you for considering my suggestions. I look forward to seeing positive changes that will further enrich the Local Guides community.

Sincerely,

@NandKK

Nice suggestion @NandKK
Especially religious places still constitute a large portion of travel for local guides in India and nearby regions.

Until that time, Culture would be a right fit.

Yes @TusharSuradkar Ji, I had made few post about few religious places, then I came to know, there is no option for a particular tag. Currently I am doing that under “Culture” only.

Hi @NandKK,

Please be advised that you can use the “Culture” tag for now when it comes to religious/spiritual places.

Namaste @MoniDi

Yes, at the moment, I’m using the “Culture” tag specifically for my posts related to religious or spiritual places. If a more specific tag like “Religious/Spiritual Structures” (or something along those lines) is introduced in the future as requested, I’ll be happy to start using that instead.

Thank you so much for your kind response!
