Republic of Ireland

In 2017, I visited the Republic of Ireland during the Google Experts Summit.

I would like to convey some emotions from my visit.

Dublin is home to Google’s European headquarters. Google came to Dublin first in 2002 and it is now one of the largest employers in the city. Dublin is also home to Google’s energy efficient data centers. Due to the cold climate, these data centers have a highly efficient air cooling system.

The Temple Bar is located in the Neighbourhood of Dublin with the same name. Temple Bar is one of the oldest Neighbourhoods of Dublin, on the territory of which there are many pubs and shops. There are problems with silence in the neighbourhood at night due to the large amount of alcohol.

One of the highlights is that it’s hard to find two identical doors in Dublin. Even similar doors are still different. There is a joke legend that varios colored doors help drunken Irish people not to confuse their entrance with their neighbor’s.

What a fantastic post again @SergeySud . Dublin looks like nice place to visit. They do use vibrant colors for their doors i must say. I was really laughing after i read the last line about how the door colors are different so the drunken Irish don’t confuse it with their neighbors. Thanks for sharing your visit with us.

Keep Guiding!

Hi @AnithaM

Dublin is a great place to visit if you like nightlife, hearty protein food, whiskey and beer. Although there is a lot to see during the day - parks, museums (some with free admission), a beautiful zoo, insanely beautiful surroundings :slightly_smiling_face:

And some more doors from my Dublin photoshoot:

The Ha’penny Bridge (Half Penny Bridge), officially the Liffey Bridge, is a pedestrian bridge built in 1816 over the River Liffey in Dublin. Where did the bridge get its name from? Before the Ha’penny Bridge was built there were seven ferries across the Liffey. The ferries were in a bad condition and the owner was informed that he had to either fix them or build a bridge. Owner chose the latter option and was granted the right to extract a ha’penny toll from anyone crossing it for 100 years.

Hello @SergeySud it’s great that this blog exists!!! Thank you for your post from the Republic of Ireland.

I am organizing a trip to Dublin. Do you know if it is possible to visit the Google headquarters in Dublin?

Hi @DavidTerronPla

In my life I visited several Google offices: San Francisco, Mountain View, Sunnyvale, Dublin, Singapore, Tel Aviv, Berlin, Moscow. Usually, you cannot get into any Google offices without preliminary approval. Perhaps, with the exception of the Google Visitor Center at Mountain View.

I could not say for 100%, what rules now, but before COVID any Google employee could bring up to 15 guests to the office. Therefore, for a visit to the office, I previously agreed with one of the googlers. So you need an insider. Perhaps someone from the Connect moderators will be able to help you with this.

As for the office in Dublin, I visited there in 2017, during the Google Top Contributors (Product Experts) Summit. The summit itself was held in the conference hall of the Dublin Google office.
