Reporting the latest results of my road editing efforts

Hi @SarathUpendran, thanks for sharing. It’s helpful to know I’m not the only one facing this. Let’s hope the situation improves for all of us soon.

Hello @MortenCopenhagen,

Thank you so much for this highly detailed and transparent analysis of your road editing efforts! :folded_hands:

Just wanted to let you know that I’m seeing a similar trend: I haven’t received any approvals for my road edits in the last week. The last one I received was for a single road on November 24th.

I also aim for a specific number of roads per day, and my recent experiment seems to be working. As I use both Road Mapper and Google Maps editor, I work from my approved roads in Road Mapper and add additional edits via Google Maps editor. Trying to check my contributions list on my phone, more than half of my recent approvals are from where I drew new roads next to the Road Mapper roads. Will do a more thorough analysis via my computer tonight.

Dear @MortenCopenhagen @ErmesT @SholaIB @TerryPG @tony_b @PrasadVR @SarathUpendran et al.,

A quick update regarding road editing: Road Approvals have resumed! I just started seeing approvals come through around 3:00 AM IST this morning (45 minutes ago). As of this minute, I have received 16 new approvals.

Thanks for the update @palmad1. That’s what I’ve been trying to say for the past week. After the 18 approvals I got yesterday, and the 12 before that, I only got 2 today but that’s a lot more than zero. I also noticed my points jump by 180 today, and I haven’t done anything on Maps yet for this day, so I assume that’s for 12 roads. It remains a puzzle to me if the points are allocated before or after the road count on the contribution page increases, or also before or after the approval emails. The points, emails, and road count increases never happen at the same time.

This again brings up the question I asked @ErmesT and @MortenCopenhagen - Is it that the Maps employees examine roads in different countries on different days, or do they examine the work of different batches of LGs on different days? I don’t know where you live, but you were getting zero notifications when I got my 18 and 12. Today you suddenly get 16 approvals. Also wonder where are you mapping most? A preliminary check of my approved roads by tediously scrolling through the My Contributions list, shows that more than half of my recent approvals were in Kenya and other countries where I drew new roads next to my recently approved roads on the Road Mapper platform.

Yes, I totally agree with @ErmesT on this.

That’s an excellent suggestion, @SholaIB. With the solid foundation already laid by both @MortenCopenhagen and @ErmesT through this post, it would be a great opportunity for us to brainstorm during one of the upcoming meet-ups about how we should approach the next TRAC/TORM season.

If I knew I would be happy to share. The most reliable source is probably systematic observations as it is not Google’s policy to share such information.

I just received 230+ road approvals this morning (GMT). It appears like the review/approval system has just been switched on.

I might be wrong Tony, but remember having read something like the human operators (after initially pre-approved by AI) are working on batches per region and/or local guides and the more you git approved in the recent past, the more will be approved now - probably, your advantage.

Anyway, if somebody knows, it would be @ErmesT, but I believe, he is very busy.

Please keep these observations coming. We will need them all for our analysis towards TRAC 2026.

While we share the number of approvals, it’s quite important to share if the approvals are from old edits or new. Another thing that will be of interest is the number of edits versus the number of approvals. @SarathUpendran please take note.
@jonbvn as well and others

I have been on an average of 25 roads. Last month I got 2 approvals max. Nevertheless since last week it’s been higher. I got 6 approvals this morning oct and nov edits.

Maybe I should also announce that I have submitted a meet-up for approval it’s for 12/12/2025. 15hrs GMT+1

TRAC 2026 Planning Session Meet-up
Happy mapping
Cheers

I would advise that the vast majority of my 230+ road approvals received today are for roads added between 25 Nov and 1 Dec (I.e. recent additions). The earliest addition I can see that has been approved is from 22 Nov.

Thanks for sharing this experience, here, @MortenCopenhagen!
I don’t count how many roads I’ve edited, but I believe the approval rate is low, especially for several days ago. Today is slightly different. I’ve got 11 road editings accepted, most of them are for short streets. Some of them are from November 22-23 and 30th.

Assuming that Pending edits still go to Not Approved after 90 days, does anyone know of an easy way to scan through the last 90 days of the Your Contributions list? My target is a minimum of 10 roads per day, but I go to 15 or 20 if I find an easy area with lots of opportunities close together. Therefore I need to scroll through more than 1000 road edits to find and analyze the Approved ones to see where they’re coming from.

Hello @tony_b

You don’t need to scroll through. In the approval E-mails you see the date. That gives you an idea if it’s the day before or last week or whatever.

A screenshot of one of my approvals today. I added it yesterday and it was approved today

@tony_b

No need to scroll through your edits. Change your strategy put marker next to roads you add and move them as they get approved and remove them when you finish. Check them from time to time. And forget yor contribution list.

@sho

Today i got approved for some of my edits since October.

Regards,

Port

Well, it’s not very easy to respond, @WilfriedB , @tony_b
It’s true that the preliminary check is made by an AI, and it’s becoming a quite strong check, responsible for most of the rejections, that are normally coming a few hours after the submission.
The next step I think it’s taken by priority, where the highest priority is for roads used by more people. It means that roads in high density areas are evaluate earlier and simple edit are checked first (but I can be wrong in this).
What I can see (like everyone else) is that the approvals slowed down in the last months, to have a small acceleration two weeks ago.
I guess this is because the team is transferring more control over the AI, and they are at work to double check the approvals, before to release them.
This could explain, to respond to @SholaIB , why the approvals are mostly related to edits that are, on my case, from 10 up to 80 days old.
Just a very few approvals are related to new edits
