Report duplicated business created on purpose. Google says "couldn't verify the update"

Dear community,

I found duplicated business with different names but exactly the same website address and telephone numbers.

Apparently it is created again by this notorious business i posted before:

https://g.page/dak-en-schoorsteen-groep-nl?share

https://g.page/nokvorsten-reparatie?share

But this time when I use “suggest an edit” → “close or remove”-> “duplicated of another business”, the popped up list does NOT include the duplicated business. and if i choose “none of the above” from the list, my report will soon be marked as “Couldn’t be verified”.

Then I tried to report it as “changed name or other details”, I attached above photo, then again my report is soon marked as “couldn’t be verified”.

Maybe the business finds a new way to cheat on Google listing? It seems that Google does not do manual check on such report and if the submitted information does not have what the algorithm wants, it’ll be marked as “Couldn’t be verified” quickly.

Further more, it seem that such cheating is so EASY for these business to do, they simply create a new business using the same information and keep using them for a long time until someone reports it… and there is no consequence for such kind of cheating.

Any recommendation on what to do here? Thanks

Regards,

Frank

Hi @FrankdeBeer

A few observations and tips:

These are service area businesses without a physical address. They can be somewhat difficult to deal with.

I see phone numbers and URL are the same.

When I click on the second link you shared the title is not showing the price per m2. Adding this is against the guidelines.

Normally I would look up the phone number in reverse to learn where they are and possibly find even more listings from the same company. If you can try finding it in the registry of companies in NL. This will give you the proper name. Clearly, they are using some creative names to get more listings.

When you have this documentation as pfd files proving the proper name, you can raise this with the Google Business Profile team for them to take care of it.

Here is the GBP help center and you find the GBP forum here.

As a volunteer, I doubt you will be able to fix this by yourself.

Cheers

Hi, @FrankdeBeer

According to this post (Why-is-my-edit-status-Pending-or-Not-Applied ), “…if your edit is Not Applied, that means we were unable to confidently verify the information you shared at this time.

So, imho, try again later again and again until your edit is approved.

Or… just forget it. You’ve done great. Google team will take care of that. Everything will be alright.

@iorikun301 that’s interesting, if this is manually checked, how come that it cannot be “confidently verified”…?

To be honest I don’t know, @FrankdeBeer . I’m not a mind reader.

But still at the same post, “…w_e (Google) may need additional information to verify that your edit is accurate. It may take some time for us to gather that information and for fellow Local Guides to use the Check the facts feature on Google Maps to confirm the information you shared is correct._”

It means, imho, after check (and recheck?) the information you’ve provide, for some reasons they decide to not trust it. So your suggestion is rejected.

Or it simply the POI has been claimed as business by someone.

@MortenCopenhagen thanks for the hint. I did some further research to find the real information of this business behind the scene.

The true registration information of the company:

https://www.kvk.nl/zoeken/?source=all&q=77563476&start=0&site=kvk2014

Bestaande handelsnamen

The Roof Company | Roof Planet | Dak en schoorsteen GRP Nederland | Dak GRP Nederland | Schoorsteen GRP Nederland | Schoorsteen Verwijderen Nederland | De regio dakdekker | De daklekkage specialist | De schoorsteen specialist | DNDB | Dakinfo | Regio dakraam

  • KVK 77563476
  • Vestigingsnr. 000045258627
  • Oude Stadsgracht 138
  • 5611DJ
  • Eindhoven

77563476 0000 000045258627 The Roof Company Dakdekken en bouwen van dakconstructies Overige gespecialiseerde werkzaamheden in de bouw (rest) Eenmanszaak We houden ons bezig …

So it seems that they have at least two websites:

https://www.dakenschoorsteengroep.nl/

https://www.schoorsteenverwijderennederland.nl/

(on the second website it is full with fake google review links because their actual google page does not have that many real google reviews yet. Another interesting fraud technique)

As of now both businesses are listed on google map

https://g.page/dak-en-schoorsteen-groep-nl?share

https://g.page/schoorsteen-verwijderen?share

And i believe they are perhaps still busy creating more new names and websites…

My question is: Is such behaviour against Google Business profile rules? I mean, not show your real company name, but use other names. AND does not show the KVK on their website either so that it is difficult to find the real company information.

Frank

Well done. @FrankdeBeer .

I’m not an expert on GBP rules, so please present the case on the GBP forum whee the experts can escalate the case to the relevant staff for a check.

Most likely they are violating some Google guidelines.

Well, @FrankdeBeer at least there seems to be a real business behind this, actually offering the roofing service they claim. But it’s definitely true that they are bending the rules, so reporting this to the GBP (formerly GMB) community as @MortenCopenhagen suggested seems to be the best approach. As local guide you’ll probably won’t be able to get any edits/merges approved on them.

And just to show you that there are much worse cases of fake places being added to Maps, check out this post - and also this post to show that in some cases local guides can help clean the mess.
