As part of my job, I made a recent visit to Puerto Plata, a northern city in the Dominican Republic known as “the bride of the Atlantic.” Why is it called that way? Because instead of the Caribbean Sea, it is the Atlantic Ocean that bathes its coast.
There, I went to one of the most photographed streets of Puerto Plata: the “Calle de las Sombrillas,” which translates to the “Umbrella Street.” Besides appreciating the cuteness that makes it so popular on social media, I made a reflection: if we stop to think about it, this is quite a simple action! While the umbrellas give the impression to be floating in the air, they are just hanging from a metallic structure that goes from one side to the other.
My reflections summary? To make a place “cool” it’s easier than we might think. Sometimes all that needs to be done is have a lot of willingness, a good idea, add a bit of color, and make it good-looking for social media posts. Wanna have a bonus? Invite one or two “influencers,”… and the crowds will probably follow!
If you want to see this place from another angle, I invite you to visit: “The umbrella street" post, made last year by the Local Guide @BillyGuzman .
What do you think? Isn’t it cute? And, most importantly,do you have any umbrella streets in your country/city?
beautiful shot and indeed a very beautiful “cool” attraction! Umbrella’s are used in many places and there are many streets with such decoration, they are always nice to see them floating in the sky .
Here in Lucca we don’t have one but I know in Italy there are quite some in several places, @ErmesT perhaps there is an umbrella street in Treviso?
Great post as usual @Marichams . I love your photo.
To respond to your question, and to the tag of @LuigiZ , no, we don’t have an Umbrella street in Treviso nor in Venice but, well. to compensate, we have a lot of “Umbrellas on the street”, as you can read in Heavy rain and a lot of fun - When the Local Guides meet
