Reduce, Reuse, Recycle: Guiding Using the Three R's

I can hear the lyrics to a song I learned in elementary school. “Reduce, Reuse, Recycle. It’s very easy to do…” Better referred to as The three R’s, they have been neglected in American society lately. Approaching and using the Local Guide Community was the logical action that could significantly impact the environment! Giving Local Guides and their communities the ability to contribute digitally and physically donate/affect the cities they love. Each “R” would be a call to action, a different type of contribution, and bring a more digital strategy to The Three R’s:

Reduce; means minimizing the waste we create: We, as Google Local Guides, would add plastic bags, general plastics, electronics, and other product collection centers that are traditionally thrown away.

Reuse; means to minimize the amount of waste we create. We, as Google Local Guides, would add cloth and shoe donation bins and centers across their cities.

**Recycle; means putting a product to a new use instead of throwing it away.**We, as Google Local Guides, would add recycling bins and centers traditionally not found on Google Maps.

As a result of my efforts thus far, I’ve added around 40 clothes/shoe bins and 15 recycling bins in the Kansas City Metro!

Google Local Guides across the United States are beginning to join the initiates as well!

Starting this later Winter/early Spring, I began gathering clothes, shoes, and other items to donate to local charities and organizations. After scouring the internet for the “perfect” place, it was time to drive and find local options. I started adding clothes donation bins in my neighborhood and soon decided to update and add every clothes and shoes donation bin and center in Kansas City, MO. Unfortunately, a majority of the clothes and shoe donation bins were only visualizable via Google Street View and in person.

Let’s do it, Google Local Guides! Let’s get out there and impact our communities. We can improve our communities by spending a few seconds, minutes, and hours contributing to this initiative! Completing every clothes and shoes donation bin felt terrific, but my next mission is to map every recycling bin and center. So I’ll be getting more Google Local Guides and people involved in the near future!!

Way to go, @lakeoftea !!! I am so excited for all of the work you have been doing! Finding these locations can be so challenging… I’ll have to start doing the same in my area so that it is easier to find for Seattle folks!
