Red square around some business Profiles

Hello Community

Many times when I was tried to edit some business Profile

I found a Red square around that place

Can some one explain me what that

How it was done and how it can be removed

Hi @moloc , Nice question and a must to know for an enthusiastic map editor.

Indeed this happens when the system cannot detect the accurate location of a place/business. In such cases, the Maps show the smallest circle/square that it knows the place is located inside that.

This is not something users can do and even is not something appreciated because all places should have a real specific location on the map.

To fix such detection, it is good to move the marker to the accurate address and after applying the edit, that square/circle will go away and the Maps shows the correct location of the place/business.

On the other hand, for a verified Google Business Profile, owners can define an area of service on the map. So the map shows an area instead of a specific location. In such cases, the area could be in any shape and not necessarily square or circle. In most cases, owners define a country/state/city as an area so the shape of the red area will be the same as theirs.

I have seen circular red areas when the house number is missing as @Amiran explained. But I have never seen square red areas. I would love to see it.

It would be very helpful if you would use the tagging tool when replying to someone here on Connect. Type @ followed by the username. Type slowly. Then we get an e-mail notification and you are more likely to get a prompt reply. Just hitting Reply does not ensure we get notified by email.

I don’t see any red area on my Android phone. Do you, @Amiran ?

Great idea to ask for the desktop URL, @ErmesT

I recorded a short video showing how it shows on my desktop:

Comments:

Please don’t look at my mouse cursor, but stare at the shape of the red area as I zoom in.

Zoomed out the shape is a circle. It looks like the normal circle for Service Area Businesses, but there is actually an address listed!

Zoomed in more the shape changes to a half circle, then a 1/4 circle, and then a box.

The red box is not correctly centered with the business as I zoom in. The red area is “sensitive” to not extend outside the viewed section of the map.

Have you seen this before? I haven’t.

Indeed the first one was also a desktop URL @ErmesT @MortenCopenhagen . And I checked it on the desktop both times. First, it had the red square and in the next check, it disappeared as @moloc moved it to the right location.

This new link is related to another place and I see its approximate location both on the app and desktop. Even on the app, it says this is “Approximate Location” and “Help us to improve it”

That dynamic circle/square is visible on the desktop and I didn’t see such a thing before. Indeed I didn’t zoom in/out a lot when I saw such listings before and just moved them to the right place. I assume it is just a graphic issue right now and the correct circle is what we see over the whole city where the POI is at the center.

I should test the current visibility of the circle on another POI, I will share if I find any such a listing in my around.

I have noticed that is on about 20 dentists in that city, I was surprised in the first time before receiving your information and have correct that in many ones, seriously I have not verified yet if they gone or not !

اعتذر عن التاخير فالمشكله في دولتي.

المشكله المتعلقه هي بالعنوان اجل لان ذلك المشروع تم تحديده بعنوان دقيق وهو عنوان المختبر او طبيب الاسنان لكن لم يتمكن البرنامج من معرفه المكان بالضبط لان ذلك الشارع لم يتم تسميته بعد على الخريطه يمكنني ان اساعدكم في ذلك. فمكتبي مفتوح لمساعده الجميع تحياتي لكم جميعا.

Kind of you. But the old problem with a dentist in Fez has already been fixed by changing the business type from a service area business to one with a proper address.

هنالك رساله تطلب منا ان نقوم بتحسين الموقع وهناك مشكله اكبر فاسم طبيب الاسنان هو عباره عن اسم عائلي وهو متداول كثيرا حبذا لو كان الاسم الحقيقي للمشروع فهنا نلاحظ ان هناك مخالفه في القوانين هل تفهمني ربما كان من المفروض ان يصبح التعديل او اضافه المشاريع على الخريطه تمر عبر مرشدين محليين موثوقين لكي لا يكون هناك تكاثر في المخالفات وانا هنا في حاله ان توفر لديك تجربه يمكننا ان نبداها من خلال المشاريع التي اصبحت تعتمد على الخريطه كمصدر موثوق للزبناء الذين يحملون عقولا جديده تحياتي لك ولكل المرشدين الذين يحرصون على مساعده كل البشر تحيه اخوه وسلام لكل البشريه جمعاء

You next step is to make sure the address and road is correctly represented in Google Maps. I don’t know if you will be able to fix this or it needs to be done by your local authorities.

When fixed the pin will show at the correct location.

If you want to give it a try you first need to find the relevant official documents / Maps.

Then please seek help with this in the Maps support forum.

Hit the Community tab at the top and make a post. You need to attach or link to official documentation supporting the change you are proposing. Copyright-free governmental maps are probably the best proof you can attach.

Without such official documentation, you will not be successful.

اتمنى ان يكون الجميع #LG على احسن حال.

فيما يخص هذا الاسم فانا لا استطيع ان اقبل لشخص ان يقوم بوضع لقب او اسم عائلي على الخريطه بشكل تطوعي لان ذلك الاسم هو رمزي ويجب ان تكون له صفه قانونيه لكي اقوم بقبوله في مشروعنا،لانه لو بحثنا عن المشروع سنجد ان له اسما قانونيا مخالفا لما هو مذكور،ولكي اقوم بهذا العمل يجب ان اتصل بصاحب المشروع،ولاسباب قانونيه واجتماعيه في بلدي كانت مشكله في مسيرتي لكي اغير مفهومه بالنسبه لمجتمعي انه ضروري علينا نتعاون في شيء يخلق عالما امنا وسهلا من اجل الجميع،المشاكل التي نواجهها نحن مرشدون المحليون هي كثيره ومن الممكن ان تكون هناك تجربه نجمع فيها المشاكل التي يواجهها كل المرشدين هي فقط فكره لكن كل شيء ممكن اتمنى ان تكونوا في امان وامن تحياتي لكم جميعا واصل فانتم الافضل عيشوا في سلام .
