[Recap] Virtual Photo Workshop #5

This week we came together to talk photography, we viewed my favourites from the homework tasks then we talked about the exposure triangle and the trade off between ISO, Shutter Speed and Aperture before cutting over the first guest presenter @FalguniP who discussed her preferred techniques for mobile photography including a new one to me “Food Mode” which is apparently a feature very similar to Portrait mode on other phone cameras. We then talked about the night’s task including a chat by @AnandaSim related to the task on perspective while also answering a question that came up after the last workshop.

This one ran mostly to time and finished with a period of questions from the attendees of which there were plenty. I enjoy this part of the workshop as I never know what is going to be asked and it keeps me on my toes.

I am getting better at using the open source free video editor KdenLive to produce the video and am learning some of its more advanced features. This part of this is lots of fun. Behind the scenes there is quite the time table of work. Every one hour workshop basically takes a week of work before starting again for the next one.

Wednesday: Produce the draft of the presentation

Thursday: Make demo photos or find them from my library

Friday: Get the QA done

Saturday: Go out and make any extra photos or video segments and blend them into the presentation and make the announcement

Sunday: Run the workshop

Monday: review the feedback, start commenting on the home work photos

Tuesday produce the video, finish commenting the home work photos and write the recap

Wednesday: here we go again!

I didn’t take role call this week but meet tells me that there were 50 participants and their initials were

AD, AG, AH, AJ, AL, AN, AN, AS, AS, BA, BG, BH, CA, FA, FE, JA, JE, JE, JO, JU, KA, KR, LU, MA, MI, MN, MY, NI, PA, PA, PY, RA, RI, RO, RO, SH, SH, SH, SO, ST, SU, TA, TH, TM, VA, VI, VV and YA.

Meet also tells me that the retention rate was better this week with most attendees staying for the whole meet-up.

The YouTube video is processing but will be available soon I hope. It’s been sitting on 0% for a while so we’ll see what happens… anyway when the link works is will be https://youtu.be/YSPR6rw-WS0

Another big week done and dusted just in time to start the next one.

The workshops keep us engaged during the whole week like from participating in the workshop then completing the task. Waiting for your comments and the corrections to be made and waiting for the next Sunday desperately. It was a great experience this week @PaulPavlinovich crisp and on point explanation makes the workshop very successful. @FalguniP made a great impact with her presentation on mobile photography.

Great recap @PaulPavlinovich . Thanks for all the hard work you put into creating these each week. I think the huge number of attendees, week after week, indicates that you are addressing a topic of interest, and doing it well. I really enjoyed @user_not_found 's presentation too. Love how you have included other LGs as guest presenters. Looking forward to #6 this week!

Thanks for the update on food mode @FalguniP it looks like fun, see you on Sunday for more food photography brought to you by @MaxPlusFood and other topics.

Thanks @Shreeya_99 I am glad you find it helpful, makes it worth the effort that is put in.

@JustineE want a gig one week? This week I’ve got Max and a surprise guest.

@Shrut19 thanks for the kind words, it was great to have Falguni on the show. I’m enjoying showcasing other Local Guides and sharing the moment with them.

I’ve noticed the initials are kind of random @Ewaade_3A its based off your google account name I think. It doesn’t show me the names or the emails, just the initials. I noticed you’d become my apprentice on socials - that gave me a smile :slightly_smiling_face:

Glad you enjoyed it @Nomad_vikram

Thanks @Velvel the meet-ups are fun for me and while yes it’s a bit of work its also helping me to voice the concepts better and when I rewatch the video I notice changes in how I do it each week. We’re all learning together. I learned new video software that @AdrianLunsong suggested as an alternative to the very powerful but also very complex software I was using (am still learning five weeks in) which is also fun.

I’m glad you like the tasks @Gurukrishnapriya I think you will enjoy this week’s task.
