[Recap] Underdog eateries food crawl meet-up

I hosted my first meetup to review my list of favorite eating places(I call them the underdog eateries, because they are very underrated). This post is a brief of all the places we hopped to, and what my meetup attendees thought about the food at each place. Read on for a fun review!

These were 8 places we hopped to on the food crawl. You can find the list here- Skip fancy restaurants, go the street way!

Joining me on this trail were 6 other passionate foodies.

Let’s dive straight into the places we went to and all the food that we devoured.

1. Ganesh Chats

First up was Ganesh Chats. It is known for its massive variety of chats, each of them being unique and very tasty.

All the ingredients used were fresh, and every item we ate was delicious. The local guides rated Ganesh Chats an 8/10.

2. Lumbini Snax

My favorite potato snack is the Twistato(Potato on a stick) and this place is where they make the best twistatos! And our local guides confirmed that when we went here.

This potato-on-a-stick snack experience was unique and finger-licking good! The local guides unanimously rated this place a 9/10.

3. Hari Super Sandwich

Stop by here if you are craving for a sandwich and you need a quick bite. They have quite a lot of varieties that you can try, including dahi(curd) toast and chocolate!

We devoured the sandwiches which are cut into bite-sized pieces in no time at all! The local guides rated Hari Super Sandwich an 8/10.

4. Upahara Darshini(Roti Ghar)

There is something for everyone here! Dosa to Chinese, milkshakes to chats, you name it, and they’ve got it!

On weekends, they have a special live counter serving a south indian specialty called Paddu. Ofcourse we had to try it!

Everyone loves Paddus! They are crispy on the outside and soft and hot on the inside. The large glass of Arabian pulpy grape juice after devouring paddus was an absolute bliss! We rated this place a 7.5/10.

(Some points deducted for no seating place)

5. Davengere benne dosa

A branch of the original benne dosa from Davengere(A place in north Karnataka), this place whips up the best butter(benne) dosa! The chutney and the potato curry offered as accompaniments add to the wonderful dosa experience.

Apart from benne dosa, there are other items we get here as well. Bajji, Nargis and Mandakki are famous all the way from Davengere and a must try here! The local guides rated this place an 8/10.

6. Chinese Square

A tiny shack that serves great Chinese food! Vegetarians who fret about Chinese places barely serving vegetarian options will find a haven of options here, since this is a vegetarian only place. We tried the Mushroom chilly and Veg Fried rice here.

Thirsty that we were from all the walking, we tried the pudina lime juice and the buttermilk here as well! The buttermilk is definitely underrated here. We couldn’t stop at one glass!

We rated Chinese square an 7.5/10.

7. S.L.N Bajji

Bajji is the Kannada word for fried fritters. This bajji shop innovates with different vegetables and makes bajjis. We tried the mushroom, capsicum and potato bajjis. They are served with grated carrots, onions, spices and a dash of lemon. This makes S.L.N bajji shop my favorite place to satiate my bajji craving, especially when it is raining!

Our local guides group had a high standard for bajjis and rated this place a 7/10.

8. Mane Holige

Holige is an Indian dessert known by different names across India. In the north it is known as Puran Poli, or simply Poli, whereas in the south it is referred to as Obattu, or Holige. It is like a flatbread with a sweet stuffing. Mane Holige is the place to go to if you are a holige fan. From Almond and Dates holige to carrot and jackfruit holige, they have it all! They make it right there in front of you, and it is steaming hot.

We tried the almond and dry fruits holige. They were hot, soft and just the right amount of sweet. The local guides rated this place a 9.5/10. What a fantastic end to the food crawl it was!

So that was the end of my food crawl review. Hope you are tempted to try one or more of the places mentioned here. Do let me know how you liked it if you try.

Cheers.
