[RECAP] Sunny Day in Tallinn #Tallinn LGC Anniv Meetup

Hello, dear friends Local Guides!

I’m pretty excited and want to share with you my first successful experience of hosting Local Guides Meetup in Tallinn, Estonia on August 10, 2019.

The special feature of this Meetup is an international composition of Mykolaiv Local Guides and Tallinn Local guides!

The backstory as an idea was born

I am a Local Guide from Ukraine, currently live in Mykolaiv, Ukraine. And I am quite often in Tallinn, Estonia.

I love walking around the Tallinn’s Old Town. Plenty ancient winding cobbled streets, amazing sights and old-time buildings attract me like a magnet. Like on my other trips, I actively use Google Maps for planning, navigation and searching interesting sights.

Actually, millions tourists visit Tallinn annually. It’s a beautiful capital of Estonia and popular touristic destination on the Baltic Sea. Many people come here by planes, trains, buses and cars. Consider only during cruises season more than 600 thousands travelers explore Tallinn. They take huge amount of photos and many of them add to Google Maps. But in certain cases, the location services work not so correctly and some people know the city not so good. Unfortunately, as a result, there are many pictures of the sights on Google Maps, which do not match them.

Therefore, from my first visit I got an idea about connecting with Tallinn Local Guides and photowalking.

I am interested in activation and growing of Tallinn Local Guides community and improving Google Maps to help people enjoy amazing attractions of Tallinn!

Perhaps this idea until now remained only in my mind, if there was not the accelerator!!!!

It was the 3rd Anniversary of Local Guides Connect and my friend @Kashifmisidia, who proposed a great way to celebrate this Anniversary - Unofficial LocalGuidesConnect Worldwide Anniversary Celebrations

With great pleasure I joined this initiative and organized Tallinn LGC Anniv Meetup!

The Sunny day of Tallinn LGC Anniv Meetup

We met in the starting point Viru Gate.

Together with Aleksandr @unhombre , Tatiana, Vladimir @ecko1972 (Tallinn Local Guides) and Pavel @Shipmaster (Mykolaiv Local Guide) we were really lucky with such sunny bright day!

Let me remind you that the weather nearby of the Finland Gulf this summer is often variable, rainy and windy. Our friend Konstantin joined us later.

It was really great opportunity to find new friends in Tallinn!!!

Our itinerary included main sights of the Tallinn’s Old Town. You can find more details about these attractions in my Google Maps List The Old Town of Tallinn

Immediately, I note that we are not only walked, took pictures the places referred to in the MyMaps, but also in addition visited some amazing places besides!!!

We had interesting conversation with sharing knowledge and personal experience as a Local Guides on Google Maps. As about me, I caught many interesting features from Aleksandr as very experienced Local Guide, who passionate to edit Google Maps.

Since our Meetup was held as part of the Celebration the 3rd Anniversary of Local Guides Connect I told about the great potential of the LG Connect platform, about main projects in which Local Guides participate - The Local Guides Clean The World and #OneAcessibility.

In addition, I was happy to share my wonderful experience as the Connective 2018 attendee!

Our Tallinn LGC Anniv Meetup was held in friendly company and marvelous sceneries of the Old Tallinn!

And we continued our Meetup in the cozy cafe Lido.

You can find more pictures in our PhotoAlbum

I wish you many Sunny Days in your life!

See you soon!!!

Jane,

Local Guide from Ukraine

Tallinn must be really beautiful, I like its castle and the medieval architecture of the city!
I think it must also be nice to live there!
I saw your album Jane and I have a curiosity: is Tallin also famous for almonds? I saw that they sell them around the city!

Thanks for sharing your recap and for letting us meet your friends!

@JaneBurunina - the areas you visit and live in are storybook places in fairy tales. There is a romanticism in architecture in Tallinn you don’t see or can experience where I am from.

Looks like you and your Mykolaiv Local Guides group had a great afternoon with the Tallinn Local Guides group walking around charming Tallinn.

I can see @KashifMisidia smiling from ear to ear reading and seeing your photos and video here.

Hope all is well with you and enjoy our your last bits of summer. Fall is coming!

Cheers,

Karen

Hi @davidhyno

Actually, Tallinn is very beautiful city and a fine place for living.

Yes, fried almonds with different flavors - salted with garlic, herbs, chili, as well as sweet with cinnamon, cardamom - are very popular snack in the Old Town of Tallinn. We can see that almonds are fried right in the Town Hall Square video
