[RECAP] Sri Lanka Accessibility Walk ♿ - March 2019

My monthly meet-up as part of creating more awareness on the importance of accessibility-related aspects to Google map was on schedule. This time, I was about 10-minutes late to the meetup destination due to a huge traffic jam on my way, and I immediately used the meetup host announcing option to say that I will be there in 10 minutes late to the spot and fortunately, I could reach on time. This was an exciting meetup, there were seven local guides including one special guest, that is @KashifMisidia who came from Pakistan.

We all met at the meetup spot and @RajievR is a new face to our Sri Lanka local guides that day and we welcomed him to our enthusiastic team. As always, I was explaining the rules and all the aspects, what to follow and this time on top of that I said even if you can’t find any accessibility-related places, please do not waste your time, please take some good photos of the buildings, food and etc you encounter during the walk. However, keep your primary focus on accessibility related things.

We all,
@KashifMisidia , @ThanulakshanS , @Kumaran_thanga , @Shafranlive , @lahirusu , and @RajievR started walking and capturing photos. Yes, we got a lot of beautiful pictures and you can check the photos in our meetup album below. I was explaining and showing places to Kashif since this was his first visit to Sri Lanka, we all had a good chat with him and did a small knowledge sharing session too.

After the meetup, we all decided to have some chill drinks and went inside a burger king nearby and had ice milo and cappuccino. This was a very informative meet up since we discussed a lot of topics and all were very useful and I’m sure that will improve all our contributions in the future.

On the other side, Kumaran, Thanu and Safran were having fun with GoPro times lap and you can view that in the below video link. Overall, it was a very useful accessibility walk for all of us. Finally, I dropped Kashif at the hotel where he was staying and came home with lots of fun-filled memories.

More meetup Photos please check this album

Hello @IlankovanT and Team Srilanka Local Guides.

That Accessibility walk was a great learning session for me, because that was very first time when I meet many of local Guides together. Walk and discussions gave me many tips . Ilankovan and my friends from srilanka are very generous and friendly,. In our discussion and meetup, I didn’t feel that we are meeting first time.

Thank you so much ilankovan and my friends who welcomed me like an old friend.

Shukriya

Hi @IlankovanT ,

I’m a bit late to reply, but just wanted to say thank you for another fruitful meet-up and great recap!

You were a nice fun group of Local Guides and I’m sure @KashifMisidia and @RajievR really enjoyed their first Sri Lanka meet-up.

How did you go about reviewing the places? Did you focus on institutions and government buildings, or took photos of all businesses along your route?

Hi @DeniGu , yes you are right, this was my first meetup out of my country, in Pakistan I hosted several meetups, but this walk was quite different and amazing for me. Because @IlankovanT is the person who loves to share information with the people who are along with him.

And what I learn from Colombo Accessibility walk, that experience is very useful for my meetups in Pakistan.

Thank you so much

Shukriya

Great to hear about your positive experience, @KashifMisidia !

It’s really amazing how global the Local Guides community is. Not just in terms of who lives where, but also how readily and openly Local Guides like you and @IlankovanT exchange knowledge across borders.

It’s truly inspiring!
