[RECAP] Photo Walk, Dream Holiday Park.

Hello everyone.

Local guides friends. I hope everyone is fine. Last week I went to the photo walk meet-up in Norsingdi district in Bangladesh. Meet-Up venue places [Dream Holiday Park ](http://Dream Holiday Park )and the local village area.

Origin of Narsingdi district:

Narsingdi district is a very beautiful and popular district in Bangladesh. The ancient King Narasimha established the city on the west bank of the river Brahmaputra. The district was ruled by a king named Norsingdi.

The target of the Meet-Up:

The mission of the event was to make Google Map spam-free and user-friendly. So I have added multi-function. In addition to the photo walk, I included 05 categories such as.

This 05 categories:

  • Check the fact.
  • Uncover missing information.
  • Add missing places.
  • Map Accessibility.
  • Local Guides introduction/ get together.

Meet-Up Starting:

We all live in Dhaka city. Narsingdi is 50 Km far from Dhaka. So started our journey in the morning 6:30 am from home. Everyone arrives at Dhaka-Motijheel [City center](http://City center ) at 8:30am. Everyone is joining the bus, in front of the Dream Holiday Park. Then the time is 10:30 am(Rent per person cost TK 150). We enter the park(Tickets cost Tk 300 per person).

Check the face:

There we together checked all fact of Map notification. I make more calls by calling 50+ mobile numbers and visiting places. I think it is a spam-free area right now.

Uncover missing information:

Since the district is more in the village area. So here is Uncover missing information Verification in the category is a very difficult task. We went to many places to ask for information, seems to be worried. Well, educated people there are very few. Many people thought it will be harmed if they give the correct information. I explained to them and I was able to verify the information in many places.

Map Accessibility:

What is Accessibility for educated people less often? This is not well known. I talk to many charitable organizations, buddies, schools, colleges and committees about accessibility. As a result, all will tell when the ramp is ready. Accessibility ramps can be seen in new modern buildings, schools, colleges and buildings. But accessibility toilet facilities were much less.

Add missing places:

Place add lots of space according to the Norsingdi. However, the mobile internet is also not available for at least 2G devices. So many places to add, but if there is a missing place add there id no network in that time. Some time age I found some places to add.

Local guides introduction/Get together:

We talked with my friends and a few local people. Discuss about Local Guides Program and its advantage. This event, Experience sharing 05 part session, we made an open discussion about how make quality contributions. Together we have snacks and tea, also explained how the Map will be spam-free and accessible for everyone.

This part was a bridge with old and new local Guides. Me @ShafiulB and @AbdullahAM Shared our different experiences and achievement with new local guides to inspire them.

We ended out Meet-Up. I will invite you all to see the event photo album, Missed ‍a lot at the event @SumaiyaZafrin Apu.

I hope @Aruni @KatyaL @DeniGu @InaS @KarenVChin @EmekaUlor @IlankovanT will like this RECAP.

Thank you very much.

Mohammad Alauddin.

@Mohammadalauddin , looks like you and your group covered a lot of territory.

My question is how did you make Google Maps “spam-free” that day. Did you find a lot of spam? What kinds of spam did you find at Dream Holiday Park?

How did you make Google Maps more user friendly? What did you and your group do? Do you have some examples?

Cheers,

Karen

Thank you very much @KarenVChin for nice questions. We tried the Dream Holiday Park and it’s nearly surrounding areas to make a contribution. We look at the things that matter.

  1. Correcting the wrong mobile number.
  2. Correct the wrong name.
  3. Correct the wrong category.
  4. Proper use of GPS( Correct location).
  5. Many businesses have closed but the location is still showing now.
  6. Do not use human pictures in map.

Thanks @Mohammadalauddin for sharing your definition of “spam free” with plenty of examples.

I like to share with you the correct definition of “spam” or “spamming” and when to properly use or not use the term “spam” and “spam-free” in your post and future Connect post writing.

In general, spam is unsolicited correspondence, advertisement, or self promotion that you personally received via email, online, text message, or phone call.

Your meetup was about making Map edits that were outdated, incorrect, mis-categorized, and/or misplaced Pin locations, not about removing spam:

  1. Correcting the wrong mobile number.
  2. Correct the wrong name.
  3. Correct the wrong category.
  4. Proper use of GPS( Correct location).
  5. Many businesses have closed but the location is still showing now.
  6. Do not use human pictures in map.

Your group also worked hard to not have faces (and, hopefully, no children’s faces) in your photos, which is awesome!

Cheers,

Karen
