RECAP Patna Museum

Hello, friend’s

I recently hosted a meetup at the Patna Museum, but unfortunately, it was closed because of ongoing construction. However, I held both a virtual and in-person meeting at the Patna Museum Gate. Numerous local guides use Google Meet via the internet connect during this event.

I wish to learn about the location where history is preserved through writings, monuments, statues, and plenty of other artifacts that offer a glimpse into both Indian and Bihar history.

I chose to travel by bicycle because it is a green and efficient way to get around cities. However, on the way here, I encountered a traffic jam, so I opened a Google Map to see the current traffic situation, which is displayed as red, green, and dotted red. Red lines on a map denote severe traffic congestion; green signifies no traffic; and red dotted lines on a map represent closed roads. Watching these features surprised me; after a while, they became incredibly accurate and precise. The road has been closed off, and construction is still ongoing. I was running behind schedule because of this, but I made it to my destination by 11:45.

Upon arriving at the museum, I was really upset to find that the museum was closed and that work was taking place inside the Patna Museum. Because of this, security guards would not let me enter the monument, so I created a Google Meet virtual event instead. A large number of Indian local guides attended, although they were also upset to see this historic site close. Three visitors from Odisha arrived in front of the museum to view the antique sculptures. When they inquired about some of the tourist attractions in Patna, I recommended the Patna Zoo.

One of them asked why I was taking pictures of a closed museum, so I said, “I’m a local guide from Patna posting content on Connect.” They then asked me a lot of questions about Connect, to which I replied, “This is a global community, where local guides from every part of the world show their places, food culture and stories to the world.” One of them said, “You’re doing very good social service; keep contributing.” I laughed and replied, “This is my passion, and I will continue this contribution forever.”

They assured me they would also be joining this community and tagging me with @IndianRavi . I replied that you are always welcome to join our connect family.

Together with a local guide, I discussed the value of including museums on maps and how to make them more appealing to tourists. Some of them put forth very optimistic ideas, but I think it’s important for officials to restore the monuments. However, I think that during the process, they should divide the work into sections and close one section at a time rather than the entire museum. This will make visitors and tourists feel more at ease.

Nonetheless, as museum officials are in charge of the renovation and construction, their opinions on this matter fall under the museum’s authority.

I was adding and revising roads on a map, so I was thrilled to find this road closed notice. I took pictures and filed a click here for the location, and now it is accepted and visible to google map.

This was a hard experience organizing a meetup at the Patna Museum. However, I won’t give up; I’ll carry on as a local guide and undoubtedly organize more meetups in my city or neighbourhood. I also edited the Patna Museum to show it was temporarily closed. However, my edit was rejected.

My main goals are to give a glimpse of locations with the connected local guide community and to make places more accessible to map users.

We appreciate everyone who participated virtually in this event.
