Recap on Anambra December Map Edit Up

We decided to cohost this meet up because we noticed that many people migrate during Christmas seasons. We found it important to map these public places to help people make good decisions when they visit.

The Anambra Map Edit Meet up started along Club Road in Awka. There, we noticed that there were some public places like hotels, bars, stores, clinics and pharmacies that were yet to be added on the map.

We added those places on the map and the places that needed more information were edited too.

Below are some of the places that were added and edited. All the additions and edits were instantly approved by Google maps. Thanks to the working team. Below are the names:

  1. Regalos Resort and Garden
  2. De- Empress Concept
  3. Chetam Pharmacy
  4. Stem Health Pharmacy
  5. Royal care specialist hospital
  6. Big Ben Fashion School
  7. Jopat Trust Hotel
  8. Petra Academy
  9. Calvary Eye Clinic

The other places we visited was not successful because they refused us doing any edit for them.

Fulfilling moments: I was so surprised to see that my Samsung Health recorded a 9Km walk during the meet up.
Doing the meet up with @Edubursar was exciting because we visited places we never thought existed and interacted with them especially those who were friendly to welcome us and share such information. It was my first time with him and i was so happy we shared similar thoughts and aspirations. Our first visit to De Empress stores was so welcoming as the beautiful young girls pleaded we even visit again and that they were willing to be part of Awka Local Guides. Sincerely, this inspired us to continue even though places we visited after that were not welcoming at all.

Challenging Moments: we were shocked from the response we got from two hotels we visited (Channel Suite & Sky Prince Hotel) We requested that they give us a customer care line, website, opening hours etc but they couldn’t. They either referred us to their manager which we couldn’t meet or they told us to come back. I still wonder what is confidential about these information and why hotels do not see the impact of being online and visible on the map. We explained to them on the need to be visible on the map because the Christmas season usually have lots of people visiting the city. We had this same experience at Cynvic Medical Consultants & Specialist Hospital and all the pharmacies we visited except Stem Pharmacy. It was a crazy experience and sometimes you could get discouraged doing the volunteering job.

Have you ever felt this way before when mapping places and how do you overcome such moments? @Sagir , @ChinonsoOnukwugha

It was a wonderful experience working with Uceey10. Though with some challenges of obtaining the necessary information needed from some workers.

Thanks to Google for this opportunity of contributing to making our cities more accessible online.

Impressive RECAP, LG @UchechukwuEnem

Well presented.

The photo album also is good…OK?

Congratulations… pl keep it up.

You mentioned…

“… It was a crazy experience and sometimes you could get discouraged doing the volunteering job…”.

Very true - read your experience… sorry to note this.

But…

It’s not a rare incident - in the past 4 years, I too have been humiliated and have at least once had visited even the police station - I could prove my intentions easily with my Level 10 credentials.

Another time, the Police Inspector came & made an announcement through his megaphone praising the work we are doing & told people to cooperate.

Also, a couple of times, I have spoken to authorities, where our junior LGs made minor mistakes & got them out of FINES, by talking over the telephone.

So do not get disappointed - politely, let us do our work… right?

PS;

This is also for the information of LG @Edubursar

Best wishes to you both…
