[RECAP] LGC Birthday Meetup; Accessible Dhaka (Part # 01)

I hosted a meet-up on 26th July 2023 in the ‘Paltan Culvert Road’ area. This meetup was a part of the [Call for Meetup Leaders]- Unofficial LocalGuidesConnect Worldwide 7th Birthday Celebration. It was a great initiative by LG @KashifMisidia

Paltan Culvert road area is one of the busiest areas in Dhaka City. There are many Commercial buildings, Restaurants, Hospitals and Brand Shops here. Various kinds of people use this area every day. Among them, disabled people are not less in number. As a result, the accessibility features of this busy business area are very much necessary for disabled people. So, I hosted a meetup on 26th July 2023. That was Accessible Dhaka, Part # 01 to check and update the available accessibility features there.

In this meetup I will try to do the following things:

• Check wheelchair accessibility.
• Check and update wheelchair accessible parking and entrances.
• Check and update wheelchair accessible ramps

I found that most newly constructed apartment buildings have a nice wheelchair accessible ramp. But sadly, most older buildings don’t have wheelchair-accessible ramps. Interestingly I have found some buildings that do not have wheelchair accessibility on some of the lower floors, but have accessibility to the upper floors! I covered residential and commercial buildings along the road during this meeting.

Note:
The day after the meetup, there was a major political meeting in this area, so that day there was a traffic restriction on the road in this area! So no one could join me on this meetup that day. But as it is my office area, I had no problem reaching the meetup venue.
