[RECAP] It's All About Meet-up #CommunityLive2020

All great things come to the end! Now that Community Live 2020, the unofficial Local Guides event organized by @AdrianLunsong and the Connect Moderators team for the global community,is ended, it is time to recap the awesome experience we have had during the last amazing weekend.

On Day 2 we have hosted, together with @Velvel and @PaulPavlinovich , a breakout session about a very familiar topic to the Local Guides: Session H4, It’s all about meet-up.

After a bit of social introduction talk waiting for the booked attendees session kicked off at 10:00 UTC+1 on Day 2, 13 December 2020, aiming to discuss with the community about the meetups.

First of let’s introduce what’s a meetup, how and why? We are Local Guides but we are also real persons and as such, and passionate family, we want to meet with each other, make connections, share knowledge, learn from each other and ultimately but not less important… enjoy and have fun!

From there we discussed about the fear of the 1st meetup: yes, maybe, no! Well we got almost all yes, we personally answered yes as well. Of course! Nothing wrong with that, everyone of us would ask if we are capable of hosting a meetup, capable of organizing it, and the most terrible fear, what if we will be alone with no attendees? A meetup is an enjoyable experience and can be of anything, a photo walk, a food crawl, a lunch / dinner, an aperitivo, a pizza together, a visit to a museum or simply a coffee or a beer. No experience required, we have no teachers, we have nothing to be capable of, we are just ourselves and we meet with each other, no matter the reason.

It could be nobody shows up, so the basic rule is to start with small local groups, bring a family relative, bring a friend, the worse case it is a time for YOU, enjoy what you planned together as life is always too rush and we never have time for that. Next time more people might join, spread the voice and keep enjoying it.

Last topic was about how to submit a meetup, how to publish and mainly checking the new meetup system what are common steps to create a post, collect RSVP’s, publish and share it to spread the word.

All the rest of the session was an open sharing discussion just like on a table or a on a coach with a nice cup of tea, we learned from each other with great host like @kasunaaa , @LightRich or @Shreeya_99 , we spread confidence with Local Guides who never hosted a meetup such as @Beata_Ory and @DENIT33 and much more.

Last shot … a group selfie to remember about this magic moments  .

Thank you everyone, hope you enjoyed the session with us and looking forward seeing your first or next meetup very soon!

EDIT: If you missed the session have a look at the recorded video session below.

Hi @LuigiZ

Thanks for the recap. It was no nice to host this breakout session together with you and @PaulPavlinovich . I really enjoyed the session with our small group of Local Guides, too.

For those who is an experienced meet-up host, I hope they will still continue to host another interesting meet-ups. And for those who haven’t hosted any meet-up yet, don’t be shy at all. Try to host it! Start it virtually might also good

Good luck!

@LuigiZ great reminder of the wonderful time we had together learning more about meetus which is the most unique to LG.

Here is another selfie with my meetup partner @ravindus during the session.

Also it was really amazing to be featured in the #CommunityLive2020 #CommunityMeetupChallange and I was really excited to know my Ella 360 photo run meetup selected. Hosting meetus from bottom of the Ocean to top of the mountains is one of my favourite thing in LG.
