We had our scavenger meetup today and it was a blast.
@iyudhi flew in from Melbourne for an event and joined the meetup. @Shirley and Sherman came from Vancouver, Canada.
@RahmatHarmanP and @RivaniRahmadani joined from Indonesia. Maham and I represented Ireland. Apologies to other LocalGuides in the area who couldn’t join us.
We met in the Clayton Hotel lobby and, in true Local Guides style, started with a group photo.
Next, we opened the Let’s Roam app to join our teams. To our surprise, it told us to head to the starting point… in Indiana, about 4,000+ miles away
. Ivan somehow fixed it (wizard status unlocked ! - Tagging @Kristen_NYC and @Julie_A for additional badges please), and we got our hunt started in Dublin.
No spoilers here about the tasks (or will there be?
).
From the beginning it felt like a high school and college activity, the kind that gets everyone buzzing. We were pumped and knew it would be fun.
As the host and apparently the one who knew how it worked (pun intended
), we split roles: Shirley and Ivan were the brains of the operation with their sharp memory and Local Guides know-how. I volunteered as a navigator; I hope no one regrets that choice :-p.
Sherman became our amazing photographer. Maham, Rivani, and Rahmat flagged the tasks to tackle first so we could move fast.
It was amazing, captivating, and immersive. We felt proud answering questions about the Local Guides program. It reminded us that our small efforts help millions of people every single day.
To Maps!
The Dublin weather played nice, and meeting early meant we avoided the busy hours. Along the way we found a few unmarked and non-reviewed landmarks, so we added them. We also struck a pose for you all.
Here are some of the photos from this morning.
On my way back I’m stopping at a lay-by to complete one final task (sorry, “the task that can’t be named” :-p).
Big thanks to the Google team for making this possible—for letting us meet up, find new ways to connect and contribute, and, best of all, make new friends.
I encourage the rest of you to sign up for the LG10ScavengerHunt. Can’t wait to read your recaps.
Thanks everybody

P.S.
Here’s our little list
