Local Guides Meet-Up in Karauli – Exploring the Ancient Matsya Kingdom
On 26th January, eight Local Guides gathered in Karauli, a city with historical significance as part of the Matsya Kingdom (1400–300 BCE), one of the 16 ancient Mahājanapadas. Our meet-up spot was the renowned Shri Madan Mohan Ji Temple.
Since it was a holiday, the temple was bustling with devotees, and darshan took some time. Photography inside the temple was prohibited, but after darshan, we visited the prashad counter to collect blessings in the form of prashad.
Afterward, we divided into groups of two to explore and map micro and small businesses nearby, given the large crowds. I partnered with @keshavgupta, and our first stop was Jhandu Mishthan Bhandar, a local sweet shop.
Map Edits and Discoveries
- Jhandu Mishthan Bhandar:
While enjoying some snacks, we checked the shop’s location on Maps and found it to be incorrect. I corrected the location, uploaded a recent photo of the shop, and submitted the update for review.
- Flower Shop near the Temple:
After refreshments, we returned to the temple as it was nearing closing time. In front of the temple’s main gate, we found a flower shop operating in an open space. Since it was not listed on Maps, I added it, including the phone number and working hours.
The shop is now live on Maps: Flower Shop
We also verified and edited the locations of several other shops in the vicinity, ensuring accurate information for future visitors.
