What a wonderful start to the year! On 18-01-2026, 11 Local Guides joined in person to explore Ahmedabad’s official Heritage Walk — celebrating Ahmedabad as the world’s first UNESCO World Heritage City, recognized for its living urban fabric, ancient pols, temples, mosques, markets and more. With co-host @KetanChhaniyara
Route Highlights — Mandir to Masjid Walk
We began at the Swaminarayan Temple in Kalupur and followed the classic Mandir → Masjid heritage route through 22 historic pause points — from old-city pols and temples to havelis, bazaar lanes, and iconic squares like Manek Chowk, ending at the majestic Jami Masjid.
Snacks & Shopping Fun
After soaking in history and architecture, the group enjoyed local snacks together at Chandravilas — a great time to relax and connect over chai and bites! We then headed out for some shopping fun at Relief Road and Gandhi Road, where the vibrant local markets added another delightful layer to our heritage experience
Temples, Havelis & More
Along the way, we visited several temples nestled in living neighborhoods, walked through historic havelis with ornate carvings, and experienced the rhythm of everyday life in Ahmedabad’s old city — truly a 360° cultural and heritage experience.
Map Updates & Pro Tip Exchange
One of the highlights of the meet-up was coming together to update map details and share pro tips — from enhancing landmark markers and adding rich descriptions to improving routes for future explorers. It was inspiring to see everyone’s knowledge and passion contribute to making Google Maps better for everyone.
Thank you to all Local Guides who joined, shared stories, photos, edits, and insights.
Let’s keep exploring, documenting and celebrating the heritage of Ahmedabad — one walk at a time!
