To celebrate the 20th anniversary of Google Maps I organized a special PhotoWalk & Map Editing Meetup in Kuakata, a renowned tourist destination in Bangladesh. This event aimed to contribute valuable updates to Google Maps by improving information including hotels, restaurants, bus stands, businesses and establishments. Given Kuakata’s popularity among travelers, keeping Maps updated ensures that visitors can access the best facilities and services during their trips.
We explored different parts of Kuakata and capturing photos of businesses, landmarks, and scenic locations. These photos were uploaded to Google Maps to enhance the visual experience for future travelers.
We actively updated business details, corrected inaccurate information, and added missing places to improve location accuracy on Google Maps. This effort will help both locals and tourists navigate Kuakata more efficiently.
The meetup was not only productive but also filled with fun and camaraderie. We took a break to enjoy the scenic beauty of Kuakata, famous for its breathtaking sunset views. The enthusiasm of the Local Guides made this event a great success.
I edited around 15 different places and visited more than 10 places to contributions like upload photos and answering. The best part, Some of our edits were instantly approved by Google Maps, which was truly rewarding! Many others are currently under review, and we are optimistic about their approval soon.
