On February 8, 2025, a group of Local Guides met at a restaurant in Dhaka to celebrate a special occasion—Google Maps’ 20th Birthday! With some pre-planning, we organized a meetup and had a special cake to mark the celebration. This event was also part of the 10th-anniversary celebration of the Local Guides Community!
A total of 14 Local Guides joined us for the event. As part of the celebration, we also prepared a special video for the Bengali-speaking community worldwide.
Our meetup began at 3 PM with 10 Local Guides in attendance. We kicked off the event with a brief introduction to Google Maps and the Local Guides program. We shared our mission and vision as Local Guides and discussed our passion for contributing to Google Maps. It truly felt like a birthday party-style celebration!
We were thrilled to welcome two new Local Guides who began their journey with us during the meetup. We also shared inspiring stories and achievements from our experiences as Local Guides.
To begin, we discussed the 10th anniversary of the Local Guides Community and our involvement as Local Guides. We reflected on what we have gained from being part of this community and its significance in improving the accuracy and quality of information on Google Maps.
Local Guide Moyon shared her journey as a woman and a mother in the Local Guides community. She spoke about how Google Maps has been beneficial for her through reviews, photos, and detailed information about amenities.
As a Local Guide, I always encourage fellow members to be active participants in the community and contribute high-quality content to Google Maps. I also spoke about Google Maps’ evolution over the past two decades and highlighted its essential role in our daily lives.
Then came the most exciting part—we cut the cake to celebrate Google Maps’ 20th anniversary! We shared the cake with all the Local Guides and joyfully shouted, “Hip Hip Hooray, Happy Birthday Google Maps!”
It was a fun-filled and memorable time spent with fellow Local Guides. After some engaging discussions, we enjoyed a snack break together before concluding our Google Maps birthday meetup.
