[Recap] Google Map to The Youth - Feb 2020

After involving with local guide connect activities for more than a year I have gained lot of experience and knowledge on map and Google products. I thought of sharing those knowledge with the youth who are going to dominate in the future. Therefore I have organized this meetup call “Google map to the Youth” at Nenasala Gampaha ICT center. I was planning this event over a month and I contacted my old friend (Kavindu Dilshan) who is teaching there and with the help of him I could got permission to do to this awareness program to the students of this institute.

After dates were fixed for this program I I have hosted the meetup and got ready to the meetup presentation.

I have downloaded the local guides’ educational presentation created by @TraciCand some inspiring YouTube videos from the local guide channel. Then I customized representation to the audience requirement. My self and @ravindus prepared for the presentation previous day. @Yukthi_Isuranga and @Rumal95 also confirmed attending to the meetup. On the presentation day morning I went to pick up these fellow local guides from their places and all together we went to the Nenasala center on time. We were welcomed by Mr. Jayantha Ranaweera, the institute manager and provide him a quick go through of our awareness program. He was quite impressed and he also wanted to participate to the session. With his permission we took the stage. There were around 15 students in the class and all of them were really curious about what’s going to happen .

I ( @kasunaaa ) and my LG partner @ravindus did a quick introduction of ourselves and then played a video “Who are Local Guide”. With that intro we took them through what is Local Guides program, How and different ways to Contribute to Google maps, Points and LG Level structure. Importance of contributing to maps and what are the benefit to ourselves and the society. Then we took them through the Local Guide community and Local Guide connect website. I and @ravindus took turns and conduct the presentation.

@Rumal95 & @Yukthi_Isuranga helpd us during this program in many ways. They also covered the event with videos and photos.

We conducted a short practical session on how to use Google maps app localguidesconnect website. The students were really thrilled.

They appreciated the way we presented and they were really happy to start contributing to Google mas and join with the Sri Lanka local guides team.

Finally we educated about several free Google products that are very useful to them. They were really interested to know about our 360 camera and how they work.

Finally we took group picture of the attendees as well as 360 photo too.

At the end we were super hungry and we have rushed to close by restaurant and had a great Sri Lankan lunch rice and curry. It was the end of another sucessfull meetup.

My gratitude goes to all supported me to complete this event sucess, namely Center Manager(Jayantha Ranaweera), Kavindu Dilshan, @ravindus , @Rumal95 @Yukthi_Isuranga .
