Recap: Global Virtual Knowledge Sharing meetup

How to plan and Host a Virtual knowledge sharing meetup in less than 24 hrs.

Well, for me it was never tough to host a local guide meetup but that was in case of physical meetup only. :). I was planning to host a knowledge sharing meetup for the last two months and I had submitted one. That meetup got cancelled due to pandemic and later I decided to submit a virtual meetup for local guides from India. No, that was not a good time for me to host any meetup and due to some internal issues, it was cancelled by our connect team.

I was surprised after these two cancelled meetups and on 7 April again I decided to host one virtual meetup but this time I decided not to submit a meetup on the official page. Just created an event on Google meet and shared my idea with a few of my friends & co-host of this meetup from India and Belgium( @JMD9 @NareshDarji @AmbrishVarshney @TravellerG & @JanVanHaver from Belgium).

In just 2 hours we have finalised the meetup and confirmed the timing. This meetup was unknown to everyone in it’s hosting date too. On 8 April I decided to create a post for our communities and shared on different platforms. We got a huge response but most of them mentioned that it is a surprise meetup and they might not be able to make it.

In the meantime one our local fried from Indonesia shown interest and asked me to invite her local guides friends from her country. There was no reason behind saying no to her and she brings around 10 local guides from Indonesia in this meetup. Around 70 local guides from different countries joined us. There were more and more but I can mention a few of them here,

  • Jan van Haver from Belgium
  • Jeroen Mourik from Spain
  • Devi, Doc, Brian, Neizuke, Sassana & Ripal from Indonesia
  • Aqeel from Georgia
  • Reazul from Bangladesh
  • Safdar from South Africa
  • Saqib from Dubai
  • Uche from Nigeria
  • An unknown call from the USA

Due to a long discussion, we missed many local guides to introduce themselves but yes they were posting in the comment section.

There were two sections of this meetup & everything gone smoothly.

  1. Introduction session
  2. Question & answer session

There were lots of questions and all attendees made both the sessions amazing.

A special thanks to JanVanHaver & @JeroenM for guiding, joining hands together & all the attendees.

Meetup album and few videos can be found here.

Hi @claudiaamanda we were waiting for your intro but it seems there was a mic issue with many other local guides. Lots of local guides were saying there was no mic button. I have no idea about meet but thanks a lot for joining us.
