Hello, Local Guides,
After a wonderful Photo Walk in Nature at Thaddo Dam, we decided to go forward and explore more awesome places of #SoothingSindh
We started our journey from there and headed to West of the Sindh Province where we have Pakistan’s largest, the world’s 17th largest desert, and the world’s 9th largest subtropical desert with approx 200,000 km2 (77,000 sq mi) area and forms a natural boundary between India and Pakistan. About 85% of the Thar Desert is located within India, with the remaining 15% in Pakistan.
In India, it covers about 170,000 km2 (66,000 sq mi), and the remaining 30,000 km2 (12,000 sq miles) of the desert is within Pakistan.
More than 60% of the desert is situated in the Indian state of Rajasthan, and it extends into the states of Gujarat, Punjab, and Haryana, and the Pakistani province of Sindh. Within Pakistan’s Punjab province, the Thar continues as the Cholistan Desert.
(Facts & Figures from Google)
The word Tharparkar means “crossing over sand.” It encompasses two words: “Thar,” which comes from “Thul,” which means sand ridges and “Parkar” means “crossing over.”
We all were fond of Thari Culture, which is the combination of Gujrati, Sindhi and Rajasthani culture. Indeed, the Rajasthani culture overwhelms the other two. The Thar music is also being stimulated by Rajasthani music, though it has its own soul, feelings and magic.
Thar desert is very rich in culture, folk music, folk dance, colorful & attractive traditional dresses, and jewelry.
The region of Thar has many languages, Thari Language (Dhatki, Parker), Sindhi and other regional language are commonly spoken in this wonderful region.
Jain & Hindu Temples, Sand Dunes, Wild Organic Food, Wild Vegetables, Open clean Sky with full of stars, glamorous full Moon Nights and Handicrafts are the main attractions of this amazing area.
Road to Thar :
It took approx 325 kilometers and 6 hours of drive when we reached our first destination Mithi, which is the Capital of Tharparkar district of Sindh.
We heard a lot about the Clock tower of Mithi city, so first, we decided to explore the city from the top of the mountain.
The city of Mithi is famous for its beautiful and historical Hindu temples.
After spending some hours, we started our journey again to our final destination which was not any other but the main area of Magical Thar.
We reached NagarParker in more than 3 hours which was around 130 kilometers from Mithi City.
After the wonderful season of Monsoon, the desert of Thar became like a beautiful
Oasis.
