Hello everyone,
This is the Recap post of the Accessibility meetup named #AccessibleBengal-06-Rail station-Location: Birati Railway Station. This meetup was a part of #AccessibleBengal, an initiative by West Bengal Local Guides (WBLG)to update the Accessibility status of various places on maps.
During this meet-up, Birati Railway station was visited and the followings were checked-
- Check the availability of handrail and ramps
- Check the availability of the accessible toilet
- Check the availability of the accessibility of the platform
- Check the accessibility of the ticket counter
- Check the availability of the accessible seating area and drinking water facility
About the above-mentioned points, here are some images with wheelchair accessible icon with
marking for passed and
marking for failed.
Entrance to Ticket counter and Platforms**-**
Photo- Main entrance to ticket counter has no accessible ramp from the station road
Photo- Wheelchair can enter through the slope of Platform no 1 and move towards the ticket counter (Sealdah bound trains available from this platform)
Photo- Wheelchair accessible ramp is present from platform no 1 to the ticket counter
Photo- Wheelchair accessible smooth entrance to platform 2 and 3 (Barasat bound trains available on this platform)
Photo- Another entrance to the platform is not wheelchair accessible
Platform area-
Photo- Wide wheelchair moving area in platform no 4 and wheelchair inaccessible stair
Photo- Wide wheelchair moving area in the platform and Low height seating area available
Toilet and Drinking water facility**-**
Photo- Wheelchair accessible toilet under construction on Platform 1
Photo- High height of the tap water makes the drinking water facility wheelchair inaccessible
Availability of Waste bin-
Photo- All the platforms has waste-bin to keep the platform area clean
