Hello dear Local Guides,
During my winter holidays I visited Tallinn, Estonia and hosted there Accessible Tallinn Meetup to explore the T1 Mall of Tallinn to identify accessibility features and add them to Maps to make the map of Tallinn more inclusive. I would like to share my experience with you.
We’ve met with Pavel @Shipmaster and Abdullah @Ruxellan on the left side of the entrance to the T1 Mall of Tallinn on Saturday 4 January at 1pm. Vladimir @ecko1972 joined us a bit later.
The T1 Mall of Tallinn is the modern city shopping centre with a large entertainment area for different age kids and cafes, restaurants, a nice cinema.
We started exploring the mall direct from an entrance. The central entrance of the mall is located in the middle of the building and equipped with wide automatic sliding doors - accessible for people in wheelchairs and for parents with children in prams.
Then we went up to the top level of the mall and explored the parking area. There are reserved parking spaces for people with special needs right next to the entrance/exit. These reserved parking spaces are indicated with special sign ![]()
The T1 Mall of Tallinn is quite large and extended shopping and entertainment centre. Walking around we met many navigation displays, which make it easy to find and navigate through the mall.
We found a lot of spacious elevators for lifting / lowering and moving between the floors of the mall for visitors who are not comfortable using escalators with steps. Navigation displays help to find elevators.
Of course, we paid attention to the presence of the necessary facilities in the mall. Each floor is equipped with special spacious toilets for people with disabilities, which are indicated on the navigation displays with special signs
. I noticed that all accessible toilets are equipped with Emergency red cords as you see in the photo (You can check post about it What is the Red Cord for in a Bathroom or Toilet? by @ChinonsoOnukwugha).
During our meetup we noticed one special feature of the T1 Mall of Tallinn. There are wide open spaces - no doors, no obstacles, no thresholds and steps. This modern mall has wide halls and passages, which certainly creates safety and convenience for people with disabilities, aged people and parents with kids.
We found many accessibility features in the T1 Mall of Tallinn and uploaded photos to Maps and answered Accessibility questions about places there. I would like to share with you a link to my review of T1 Mall of Tallinn on Google Maps.
